Cambridge rejections/acceptances

He started off the interview with really simple questions, and that is the worst thing you can expect. then I got question on cake cutting in the end, and got it wrong. Mind messing and tricky questions. If I ever see Dr Michael Wise again, I'm gonna tell him how mean he was.

that's a bit wierd isn't it? i've only read one person getting into pembroke. maybe they're hoping to get better ppl from the pool.....that would be sneaky!

I like to read my Cambridge letter and laugh when I look at the Oxford one!

And Adshur - even if you get a college that you aren't so keen on remember that most people after about 2 weeks at Cambridge swear that their college is the best - even the all girls ones. Yes there may be part of you that wishes you were at the college you applied to but you will be happy.

Fingers crossed for offers/interviews for all those pooled, congratulations to all of you with offers - make sure you get the grades and bad luck to those who were rejected. I was rejected last year and was devastated - but thank god I didn't get in as I wouldn't have turned down the place but now I will be doing what I love. I think things tend to work out for the best.

By the way, knowing little about STEP would somebody please explain... How hard is it to get the grades specified? Do those of you with offers feel you have a realistic shot at getting the STEP requirement?

WAHOO!!

(a) College? Emmanuel
(b) Subject? NatSci (biological)
(c) Yay or nay or pooled? Yay!!!
(d) Well everonye else expected it, I got more and more pessimistic as time went on. Especially as it's about 1 in 5/6? for offers. Today I was strangely optimistic though
(e) Offer requirements if yay? AAA bio, chem, maths (darn can't count spanish)
(f) Thoughts? Kind of numb actually...I don't think it's sunk in yet hehe.
(g) 1st preference now if nay? Cambridge with Bristol second choice.

Well done  ! I got that numb feeling too - the happiness will soon follow

Thanks!

Say, does anyone know if there's a table somewhere with information on the number of places there were and applicants for each subject and college? I'm curious to know what the actually numbers were hehe. The only thing i've seen on the website is the colour-coded applicants/places ratio.

Edders reapplied this year as well though.

Yes, I'd like to know this as well. It'll help me for next year, when I have to experience all the agony you've just been through.
I don't think that kind of information would be published for subjects at individual colleges.

I wouldn't look to closely at the ratios when picking a college, to be honest. The tutors say time and time again that an undersubscribed college won't take on "weaker" students just because there's more competition...so just go for the college you like best

But yes, I'd like to see the figures. Some people seem to have them, and others not so. Hmm..

Yes, I agree - I'm going for the college I like no matter what anyone else says.

Though it would be quite interesting to check out the "competition" as it were.

E-mail the admission tutor (for a specific college) and ask nicely. Do it during a time when they are not too busy (i.e. after all this UCAS stuff is sorted out) - if they are nice (like they were for me) they will be more than willing to help you  . I didn't use the stats in any way when choosing a college though (and I wouldn't recommend using them) - I was just curious

Can someone tell me what getting pooled actually means? (i.e. what's in store for you, what's is show about you)
(a) College? Jesus
(b) Subject? English
(c) Yay or nay or pooled? Pooled
(d) Expected? Kinda, more expecting a rejection, wish i had!
(e) Offer requirements if yay? n/a
(f) Thoughts ? As said before, rather have been rejected outright... proabably go to UCL, even if i get a college through pool.. glad it's all over.. shame..

You just sit and wait (and carry on with school work/life) while all the colleges have a good look in the pool (they will look at your UCAS & Cam form, interview notes, test results if you did one) - you will either be called for interview (very good sign as long as you don't make a complete fool out of yourself), given an offer without interview (less likely) or get rejected (like my brother). So there really isn't much in store for you - you just sit tight and try not to think about it too much!

Good idea - though I can just in my paranoia imagine-

"You? Mere puny candidate wanting to waste time asking US questions? How DARE you presume such a thing? We shall withdraw your offer immediately!" (cue evil laughter)

Good luck anyway (pool-wise  ) - UCL rocks (it will hopefully be my insurance if they want me  )!
Can you beleive that I just called my college (Wolfson - a mature college) and apparently they are not writing until the 5th January........I am quite upset now.
