changing degree after the first year
Hello, does anybody know: am I fully allowed, without any restrictions, to change my degree after the first year at university to any degree I want? Or am I going to be have to go through the whole university application and admission process again?

Youd have to be able to get on the new degree with your A level grades like if youre doing law and want to change to Biology without any science quals then no. You have to get the other faculty to agree and youd have to start at the beginning again with your first year on the other barely counting for anything as its just a Higher Education Certificate unless its incredibly similar like all the business school courses at uwe have the same first year bar one module so youd swap and take on the other module. Other restrictions are no.of places, you wont be more likely then a UCAS applicant to get one, have to get your original faculty to release you but of course thats easy, have to show the new faculty why you want to change and didnt choose to do it in the first place, have to fill transfer course/faculty forms etc. as well as student finance.
If you want to stay at the same uni, you have to talk to your course tutors and see; generally you'll need good grades (or grades bad enough that they are putting you on a 'lesser' course).
If you want to change uni, then yes, you need to go through admissions, although as you will already have your A-level grades, it will be easier.

I'm almost accepted at UCL at the moment. This is so prestigious, I'm feeling honoured. But then all of a sudden I was like..."is this the degree I want to study?" And I think maybe not, so that's why im interested whether I would be able to change it after the first year because I really want to study at UCL.

You know theres a period when you first start where you can apply to change course? easily found if you searched here you go. October 31st and you talk to advisors and like i said need to meet the entry requirements of quals and its different if you want different faculties. You dont need to study your first year just talk to the tutor and apply internally to the faculty/course leader.

currently studying business economics
and im considering changing course to marketing and public relations..
im getting mixed responses to whether this is a good idea or not..
i just really cant see myself doing business economics for any longer than the end of this year i really dislike it..
and how do you go about changing course

No you dont lose your student finance loan, you get your degree plus an additional year of funding so if its a different length youd need to put this on the change of circumstances form as well as name of degree/campus. Its not like they assess you for your course and can reject you for changing or something, everyones entitled to it and the only way you lose any is withdrawing either completely from uni or temporarily or changing say from a london uni to an outside london one as you get more maintenance loan inside.
It depends on the university. At UCL, if you wanted to change to another degree, you'd have to have the relevant a-levels and a very good reason for changing. You'd also obviously be put back to first year. Obviously you can withdraw and apply again for anything you like, but you'd have to meet qualifications.

I dont think you have read the whole thread which is what only 8 posts long? OP is looking at changing in the drop period now and I already linked to the UCL regs about this and said about the need for having the right qualifications for the new course etc.
