even noel gallagher said he didn't get that. it was something to do with them leaving manchester and extending to the rest of the world...something like that

i like the razorlight artwork and the strokes room on fire
so basically the album art work represents them selling out?

Well - they got someone else to do it for them...they didn't like it but the record company loved it...
Hence they had little choice, but it turned out all right didn't it...

I think Low Millions album cover is pretty cool; "Ex-Girlfriends" is the name of the record.

    Great thread

My favourite has to be Counting Crows' 3rd album, this Desert Life. Apparently, I was told, by a friend who did History of Art that it's inspired by René Magritte's paintings. It's from a book called "The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish". The artwork is great in the whole booklet.

the art on X&Y (Coldplay) is pretty cool...I spend ages staring at it trying to work out what it means...anyone care to enlighten me?
It stand for X&Y lol, its in some sort of code:

The code was developed by Emile Baudot in 1874 to be used by telegraphers transmitting messages across wires.

To create the code on the cover of the album the colored blocks are arranged in columns. In the lefthand column the black and grey colors are one block, the blank space below it is one block, and the red/orange, orange/green and green/blue combinations below are each one block. A colored block represents a 1 in the binary code and a blank block is a 0. Reading down, the code in the first column is 10111 which represents the letter 'X.' The far right colum reads 10101, the code for the letter 'Y.' The colums in the middle represent the & portion of the album title.
The colours dont realy mean anything, there jsut to make it look pretty lol

What do you think of the Smashing Pumpkins' adore album artwork?
S'okay. But I'm a big softie for Holmes - maybe cause the art work is so good but more than likely cause he lives around the corner! I also love the really random photography in Sondre Lerche's 'Faces Down'.

What????? Only joking, its your opinion. Its just i think the album itself and the artwork match so beautiful, almost to the extent of perfection! LOL. My uncle (photographer) said that they are some of the best BW phtographs hes ever seen, and my art teacher thought they were beautiful. Also thats only one album booklet, in a similar fashion to David Bowie, each Pumpkins album in completely different musically and artisically, i will post some pics soon so you can see. Thanks for your opinion anyway, and that photographer you said is brilliant, im looking at it right know. Beautiful.

uh don't have one- tried to explain the randomness of my music tastes to a Bob Dylan facist this week after he dissed Carmen McCrea. I just stick on whatever's there (so long as its not R'n'B - it makes me wanna slit my wrists) and hope for the best.

Bowies good - the Clash are better.

But back on topic: whats the conscensus on the doodling in the Damien Rice album? I love the rawness - it seems to match the lyrics.

Bowie is better!!!!!!!!!! The Damien Rice album cover reminds me of radiohead's amesiac cover. What you think of Sonic youth's goo cover?

Or Velvet Underground's Velvet Underground and Nico cover http://children.ofthenight.org/albums/images/11901f.jpg. Did you know a limited edition of the albums, have a banana with actually peels!
