Washing

i know this is a really stupid question but well i'm one of these rather untrained people whe n it comes to round the house matters and although i cook etc i am not particaulay brilliant at washing clothes, what are the facilities like there? do people normlly wash most of the clothes they have at once or do them in drips and drabs? are irons provided? ironing boards? or do people normally iron there clothes on a something liek a towel on the floor?

The facilities depend on the accomodation. But clearly you are provided with washing machines, and driers for each accomodation. Irons are not provided, but ironing boards are usually found in the kitchens. As to how much people wash, it really depends on the person.

Just to clarify this, there are washers and tumble driers provided in a block on central campus. Some residences (Arthur Vick being the only one I know of, though there may be others) have their own laundry facilities too, which are closer and therefore more convenient. There are loads of machines in the laundry block so you can usually find a free one, and they hold loads of clothes so (because it costs a bit to wash and dry stuff) people usually wash a lot of stuff all at once.
As UniWarwick said, ironing boards are provided but irons are not, though to be honest I don't know many people who actually ironed stuff! Sometimes people ironed shirts for smart occasions but on the whole people just tumble dry stuff then hang it up or fold it and hope for the best I think!

lol oh well
Oh I thought irons and ironing boards were provided  Hm, I guess I'll just see if there is one and if not I'm sure someone will have one I can use if I desperately need to iron something. I really hope I get AV! A close laundry room would be so convenient.

Well there's really no point in everyone bringing their own - you just need one for the whole corridor really so if you need to iron something then there's bound to be someone who has an iron, and if not you can pick them up from Tesco's pretty cheaply. I really wouldn't take one with you unless you're the type of person who wears shirts every day and can't stand having them creased! In my 2 years at Warwick I can honestly say I've never ironed anything  A good trick if you can't find an iron is not to tumble dry your clothes completely - leave them a bit damp - then hang them neatly cos that way then end up reasonably crumple-free (it's not perfect, but it's easier than ironing if you're lazy!).

I lived opposite the laundry room in AV1 this past year, literally 3ft from my room was the laundry room - you couldn't get any closer, hehe. This, however, was not so good when the laundry room nearly got minorly flooded (i.e. surface water all over the floor and starting to come under the gap under the door)

There'll be an ironing board and its pretty likely someone will bring an iron so you can just use theirs... I used my friends iron through all of last term as she never usedit and I would use it all the time so I just kept it in my room and gave it back at the end of term!

You can buy an iron for a fiver anyway from argos or asda.

I usually dump all clothes in the washer, thumble dry it , then hang anything that is not completely dry I just hang to dry in my room. ( typically all of it since I tend to set the thumble dryers to low heat as I have no diea what goes at low and high ). Its really up to you how often you wannd do the laundry, but personally I prefer one huge dump every now and then, rather than doing it all the time.
I quite like ironing and I can't stand creased clothes so I'm taking an iron. I bought a cheap one from Tescos but I think my Mum has wrecked it already! She decided to use it today just to make sure it worked and to break it in as it were, but she forgot to take the protective plastic bit of it and its melted to it!!!

I believe Claycroft, Lakeside and Heronbank also have their own laundrettes. I've never heard of someone ironing on the floor! I also mistakenly bought a £20 iron from M&S which I rarely used. Oops.
Westwood has their own launderette too, but I am told that it is tiny, which is silly considering how big Westwood is. The Rootes Launderette is the main one - I've never had to wait for a machine or dryer. The average amount of time between washes for people I know seems to be about two weeks. Occasionally the machines eat your coins and then the buttons don't work so you can't make the machine go - but that rarely happens.

I used to iron on the floor
But then I'd only ever iron one item at a time (usually my work trousers 5 mins before I'm meant to be there lol) and getting an ironing board out is so much hassle...
