There are three types of lies: Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics

Anyway is stats really gonna stop you going to a uni? A rather stupid reason, I think! I'd sooner live in Notts than London. Nothing wrong with London I just don't like big cities. Nature is so much more spectacular than anything man can make (hence I have a collection of googled images of views of snow, mountains, lakes, sunsets, aurora and waterfalls  )

Yeah, just don't expect to see too many of all those in Nottingham

Well, a non-crowded, not too busy, not too jammed up traffic would suit me fine  with a bit of green and trees and flowers and maybe a few fields and parks nearby

lol no I wasn't expecting to see a waterfall at Notts  although that would be nice :p:

haha iris youre a qualified care bear, craving waterfalls to forests with aura's!
the point is that programme screwed those towns regardless of how they really are. appearing on that show would automaticly make those particular town undesirable to anyone. House prices will probably go lower than they already are now...council people might try some new re-genration schemes like what happened to Flynt Michigan (Anyone seen Roger and Me by Micheal Moore??)

I doubt most people with functional brains would completely change their perceptions about a city's quality/desirability based on this kind of thing.

I don't think Andy meant anything by referring to the muggers as Asians. The fact that they were was mentioned, but that doesn't mean that he was stating something deeper about stereotypes or anything. xx

No i think he did and if you have read any of his other posts in D+D you'd know what i mean.

No I didn't, I DIDN'T. Unless the policeman that came round was a racist I doubt he was lying either.

I've had like 4 negative reps from this thread alone now I have a red rep for telling everyone what a policeman told me. Jesus.

Unpolitically correct stuff. However I don't see how what I write in d&d can possibly have to do with this which afterall is just me, telling you guys what a Policeman said to me regarding a group of organised muggers operating in my local Nottingham area. They just happened to be Asian, not white, not chinese, etc nothing I can do about that!!

Anyway I really think this thread should either die a sorry death or at least get back on topic. I hate it when things get so off topic and I feel I'm just repeating myself now! :tsr:

I dont plan on reading 4 pages, but this is what i usually say/think; if you don't want to come here, don't. Nottingham isn't missing out.

I know it won't make me popular saying this but, I'm just using logic here, the Radford area is a largely asian area and is known for being a bit of a crime hotspot, particularly at night. Now considering the main student area, Lenton, is next door it wouldn't surprise me that criminals from Radford will target students coming back drunk from nightclubs. So a bunch of criminals from Radford working together are in all likelihood going to be Asian. Even so most of the groups of asian guys you might see walking around will be normal folk or even be uni students themselves, so getting suspicious or paranoid about it is pretty stupid.

As for that program, Nottingham has it's good and bad bits like any other city, you'll hear various stories about a friend of a friend getting mugged etc and you'll find out early on that the Meadows and St. Anns ought to be avoided like the plague, and some say to steer clear of Radford too. I think one major problem that I have had no experience of yet having spent my first year in halls is problems with burglary in student housing. I get the impression that by and large as long as you keep security in mind while searching for a house and dont make stupid mistakes (like leaving windows open when you're gone) you should be fine.

Irisng - You won't find all that much natural world eye candy in Nottingham itself, but the Peak District is only an hour away by train. Get a train to Matlock and walk to the Nine Sisters for example. (Meet the eco-warriors while you're there too!) And Sherwood forest is apparently worth a visit. Oh and Wollaton park for the deer and post-exam summer barbecues
.....oh and join the Explorers Society at uni too!

Meadows, St Anns and Radford... will remember to steer clear of there then!

lol I'm not actually a nature fanatic  although I wouldn't mind seeing some of those magnificent landscape of mountains and waterfalls for myself - I watch way too many wildlife documentaries lol - not something you could find in Nottingham unfortunately! The uni lake did appeal to me though :p: Those parks sound nice

My friend went to the Peak District a couple of years ago and fell off the cliff    She got escorted to the hospital by helicopter. Although she only broke her left wrist and nothing else so it's all good!

I think she slipped. She's quite cool about it I remember her joking about it - like, she learnt climbing by falling  although I suppose deep down it's gotta be quite scary :frown:

Woooooooooo Road Runner I like  *beep beep* *whosh* hehe

Tom and Jerry has to be my favourite though

You know, these places (St Anns etc) aren't actually some kind of war zone you should never enter. You may have to use more caution and not go in some parts say at night or on your own or whatever, but it's not like you should never go there. A lot of people at uni in Nottingham will end up living in one of these areas anyway.

They're normal places where normal people live and do normal things, and they get a bad rep partly for the type of crime (e.g. drug/gang related killings) that's unlikely to affect you if you stay out of it.

I'm not saying they are all happy fluffy "marshmellow land" and whatever. You have to be more cautious in some situations, but they're not that different to everywhere else and the kind of things that contributes towards people being scared of those places (e.g. "menacing" yoofs hanging around) are ones that you will find in most places in and around the city.

But don't go to Mansfield, or you'll probably die.

Edited for grammar.
