I may well do! Is this a climbing club, or hiking/rambling/camping etc too?

Nottingham sucks. I remember we left a family friends van for about 5 minutes, we came back and someone had given the lock a good seeing to with a screwdriver. Fortunately they were too thick to realise the main lock had been broken enough to come off.

That looks cool, I like outdoorsy things but I would imagine bringing all the equipment with me to my first year might be a bit much... you never know I suppose

As long as you stay street-wise, which involves things like not walking the streets alone at 2am in the morning and not flashing valuables about like your phone and money etc in areas which you know is quite prone to criminal activity, we will all be fine!! Nottingham, I'm sure, isn't much if at all worse an area than any other major city in this country. As long as you haven't lived in a complete bubble all your life, you'll be fine! Just keep your wits about you. The same can be said for practically anywhere you will live, particularly when you're living alone, as we will do as students.

See you all in September hopefully!

The Explorers make several weekend trips throughout the year to North Wales, the Lake District, Scotland and the Peak District. During each trip there's pretty much always some rock climbing and hill-walking going on. During the coldest months some of them go ice-climbing. Occasionally there's mountain biking too.
There's indoor climbing at the Nottingham Climbing Centre each Wednesday if that's your thing and there's a social on Tuesdays at Cripps bar (at least that's when and where it was last year).

Dave-o - Most of the more technical equipment is supplied, on most trips you'd need the right clothing and footwear for the weather (ie waterproofs, warm layers, decent pair of hiking boots), a warm sleeping bag etc. The society can provide tents, stoves, climbing equipment, ropes, maps etc.

Check it out at the Freshers Fayre!

just be sensible.

people have this over-inflated vision of nottingham as an unremitting hellhole of death & blood. this is partly true; but the same people happily live in london, which has equally awful things happening all the time. i've seen a pregnant woman shot in the knees by a crack dealer, in Croydon, and it didn't even make the evening standard... but shootings in nottingham - which are sadly common - are over-reported.

you'll be fine... just be aware and be sensible. there are precisely no cities in the UK where i would feel comfortable flashing cash around, and nottingham is no different!
