iv asked this exact same question and got an answer. check out threads started by me.
Did applied.
Applied counts as two GCSEs
I didn't like it, it was 33% exam, 66% coursework. I got the exam done with in the first term, so I speant the best part of 1 and a half years sitting at a computer doing naff all.
I found the content boring - it was basically contrasting two businesses against each other.

I'm considering taking it for A-level. :p: But thanks for your advice.
a) Applied is more coursework based, some see this as easier. These coursework peices are pretty long and make up for 1 out of 3 units (33%). So either you would do 2 peices of coursework and 1 exam or 2 exams and 1 coursework. Applied subjects can also be double award i.e. 12 units instead of 6.

b) Some units are some are not, I'm guessing normal business is probably more interesting (I do applied), I would regard applied as a bit easier though, depends on whether you prefer c.w or exams.

c) Well some see no difference between the two but certain universities i.e. birmingham only accept one applied subject. This really depends on where you apply, I have an offer from Nottingham and I do two applied subjects, they don't care.

I did Business Studies GCSE and I really enjoyed it but didn't do as well as I could because it was 75% exam and only 25% coursework even though the coursework took forever! I don't know what it is like for A Level though. I do Applied Business A Level and we did 2 thirds c/w in AS and 1/3 c/w in A2. It's a lot more about studying actually businesses and why they do things rather than studying business theory. But at the end of the day they aren't THAT different

I'm pretty sure applied business has no exams, and counts as two A-Levels.

However, they're equally useless for getting into a half decent university.

You're an idiot. Applied business can have a maximum of two exams per (atleast 1). I do applied business and have an offer to study Industrial Economics at the University of Nottingham. Once again, you're an idiot.

I do double applied business, I think it is more difficult than traditional in terms of AQA. Most of the people in my year got very similar GCSE's, yet in traditional business no one is on target for A*'s, whereas two of us who do double applied are (two exams one coursework the lad is doing, and I'm doing 1 exam and 2 courseworks). I spoke to Aston about it back in October and they said they actually regard Single and Double Applied Business Studies relatively highly because its not just learning things from a book, but applying it and in terms of coursework writing up business plans and things

So is Southampton a **** university then, and Aston? Both gave me offers and I don't think they are any less than half decent unis at all. Its lazy people who wont do subjects with coursework, I know the applied lot have to do a lot more than the traditional in terms of work.

I believe the correct term for you is a "mental retard".applied businnes is one third exam, two thirds coursework at both AS and A Level.
As for applying for university,I got offers for Law,Accountancy, and Finance with it so it's not as "useless" as you seem to think you somehow know.

Let me put this in words you will understand...

You...stupid
applied business...good

hope I cleared that up.

Hi, I'm currently studying AS Applied Business with AS ICT. I really want to study accounting and finance as a course in university. Will these subjects be ok for me to get in to this course?

Hi David, I saw your thread from years ago! I'm trying to choose between ALevel Applied Business and IT and I can't decide which would be best for me. English is my weakest subject and I don't like essay writing. Computer Studies is my strength so I'm wondering if IT would be better but I hear there is LOADS of coursework and a horrible exam at the end. Do you have any comments on how you found both courses? Thanks so much
