Hi, I've read this, my team is not very good. I live in middlestown and my team is quite bad. I don't want to brag but I am their best player when it comes to passing and beating players, I play as a left wing. This information is really useful for me. but what else do I need to know and do, I would really appreciate it if you reply.

Knew one guy at my school who was. He was literally 20x better than everybody else, including 6th formers etc. Could dribble through the entire pitch. Picked up at 7~ or so by Man Utd then Bolton [literally from a school playground I believe], but they both gave up on him quickly as it became clear that as a religious Jew he'd not play or train saturdays. By 14 he had no club.

I'm assuming the bar for these kids is something like that; you're not gonna get picked up playing in Sunday league at 15, and if you don't develop exactly how they insist, you're out. They cull every year too, so even if you're in at 8, you could be out at 10 and waiting for a lower tier academy to come calling.

That's rough tbh. Do you know if that was his decision (ie by his nature he was quite religious) or sort of forced on him by his parents?

Likely indoctrination from the parents in all honesty. As a kid he was crazy about football, and gradually became more religious (they sent him to a religious school after too). It's harsh, but from a club pov what can you do? It's unlikely to be worth it unless it's the next Messi or Ledley King.

I had a quick google of his name when I made that post. He never made it pro according to google.

edit: It would actually be an interesting discrimination case for scheduling if a club had a player like that. Wonder if they'd get to play sundays every week.

Fair point wrt to the club, no point putting in the time and money when they're not even going to get any immediate impact at youth level. Can imagine it being quite intense when you get to around the u15-17's level and it's make or break.

Especially considering most don't make it, kind of makes a mockery of the whole system when you see players like Assou-Ekotto who don't even make an effort and piss away the dreams that millions of kids have to be a premier league footballer because he cba.

Some just have that ridiculous talent yea. Players like Ekotto, Ravel Morrison is another massive one, Adel Taarabt, so many.

It's also what makes players though, look at kids like Ronaldo and Welbeck.

It's why rooney pisses me off. People say he's had a great career etc, but I think he could have been so much more. Not sure how much he's to blame for that and how much SAF is though.

Yeah, in all honesty I prefer Ronaldo to Messi because he's worked ridiculously hard to get to that level, whereas it mostly comes naturally to Messi. Can't say I've followed Rooney that closely but I think the various 'scandals' such as his contract, sleeping with Grannies etc has affected him. Very talented though and tbh I admire him more that he's willing to work hard for the team even if not playing as a striker. Think people just knock him because he plays for United and a bit unlikeable but without doubt he's one of the best players this country has ever seen imo.

From what I have heard I think it's too late for you mate, you would have had a better chance around your team age times but I think it's to late mate but I hope you do get picked for a professional team 😊

That is a complete lie as a proffecional goalkeeper didn't even get into a conference academy until he was 16 he knows plays league one football

I had trials several trials when I was about 9/10, I was scoring at least at hattrick almost every game I played for my Sunday league team and my primary school used to enter a lot of local tournaments so I got noticed. Didn't work out for me the end but from my experience I'd say you need to really stand out for your Sunday league team and remember academies look for the things 'you can't teach'

My cousin got scouted for coventry when he came to play In a local schools tournament near me (long Buckby) and the scout actually came over to me and his dad. However after telling him that he lived over 100 miles away and so training might be more difficult, the scout was like ahh right no problems. It's a shame really because it was a great oppurtunity but I think if the kid is under 16 then there is some rules about how far and how long they can be away from their parents for. This was whilst cov were in the championship. It was unusual though as my cousin is indian lol

Hi I'm writing from Rome, Italy and I'm the mother of a 13 years old football player. He plays in a local football team which is quite famous here, Urbetevere, and this year his team finished the soccer school and in august will start the agonistic championship. I have the chance to move to London permanently for my work: how can He join a good football academy over there?

I was a professional player for half a year when I wad 19. But spent most of the time on the bench. Contract ended and didn't renew.

Local teams, even school teams and tournaments. Sometimes it's a case of being in the right place at the right time - scouts may or may not be there. Also, attending open training sessions at lower league clubs and going to summer schools/workshops at clubs.

My brother got scouted, at his school while playing football, for Chelsea Academy when he was 7. Stopped going because it was a long journey and didn't make many friends because he'd wear his Arsenal kit to training lol
