Problems with Cerazette - constant bleeding

I have been on cerazette now for about 3 months as my doctor put me on this to try and help with my PCOS however, although the first couple of months were ok I have now been bleeding for almost 3 weeks which is really, really annoying!

I have read that a lot of women don't even get periods on this pill or if they do they are very light but mine hadn't really changed that much and were still quite heavy.

The bleeding started about 3 weeks or so after my last period so it wasn't unusual to start bleeding then but other than for a couple of days where I had some light spotting it hasn't really stopped and while it isn't as heavy as my period would be it is definetly more than spotting and so I need to use a sanitary towel.

Obviously I am going to go back to the doctors but has anyone else experienced anything like this and do you think I should continue to take the pill or stop? (I'm not sexually active at the moment)

Other than the general inconvenience and annoyance of having to wear sanitary towels every day for so long it isn't really causing me any other problems but any advice would be appreciated!
Well your doctor put you on them for a reason, so if this was me, I'd stay on them and make a doctors appointment so you can talk about alternative options. It had the opposite effect on me, I had no period at all whilst using this pill and then for 4 months afterwards. But then I was extremely heavy and for 2 months was having a period every 2 weeks. But now I appear to be regular again.

Thanks for the advice hun, I have made an appointment to see the doctor on Wednesday so will see what he says but I'm still bleeding which is a real pain! :frown:

Glad to hear you managed to get your problems sorted out though!

Hi,
I'm on cerazette, and so is my friend. I've had no bleeding at all, but she started she bled for 6 weeks. Went to the doctor and he said it was a common side effect and to keep going, now she doesn't bleed at all either! Is great! So it's nothing to worry about, but check with your doctor just incase.

Heya! The first time I tried cerazette I bled for 3 months until I switched to a new one which I then bled for a further 2 months (non stop, quite heavy, all day every day) So I know what a nightmare this is!!

I got really depressed about bleeding all the time so I just stopped the pill completely and then my bf persuaded me to give it a go again about 2 months after I stopped. Now I am still on cerazette 8 months later and I haven't bled in that time AT ALL!! not even a period! So i really don't know what is up with it, one side effect is random bleeding, or not as the case may be.

I would stick it out for a while, it is horrible, but it may settle after a couple of weeks/months. If not, I can only suggest giving it a rest and trying again, as that is what worked for me.

I really hope it gets sorted OP, it was the worst 5 months of my life when this happened to me! Good luck!!
Hey,
Like others said I would definitely recommend waiting until you can speak to a Doctor. I have been on Cerazette for nearly 4 years now and I love it. When I first went on it I had a lot of bleeding, it seemed to happen every two weeks which was very annoying and at the time really got me down. The first lot of bleeding lasted 6 days but after that every time it got lighter and shorter until it stopped about 2 months later. Since then I haven't had any bleeding or periods which has been amazing! As long as you take it properly and are really careful about not missing/taking pills late the 'omg I haven't had a period I'm pregnant' worry goes away. I hope you get it sorted but I would reccomend sticking it out for a while longer, my Dr said it could take 3 months for things to settle down and you may have regular periods, no periods or heavy bleeding but I think it's more common for your periods to stop as you take it everyday your hormone levels stay the same.

Hope it gets better soon, I know it's a pain!
I was on it for 6 months and was bleeding for most of it. I got hopeful as I reached 3 months, as it started to settle down, but then it came back even worse, so I stopped taking it. If you're still bleeding a lot at 3 months go back to your doctor and see what he suggests, as there may be other things that can help with your PCOS.

5 months, now that really does sound like complete hell but like you say at least it got sorted in the end. I'm off to the doctors again tomorrow so will see what he says but I guess it sounds like it might be worth perservering for a bit longer with it

Cerazette sounds like a bit of a random pill though, some people get constant bleeding and others none but then I suppose a lot of drugs will be like that!

Thanks for your help, hopefully it'll settle down in time but if it could last 5 months I might go and buy some shares in Always Ultra, at least I'll make some money out of myself, lol :p:

I didn't even think of that, not sure I would like never having a period because I think I would constantly worry that I might be pregnant if I'd had sex! Can't win either way! Arghhhhhhh

hi i suffer with pcos also and my doctor put me on this to try and control my periods, however i kept bleeding and it kept going on every week for 4 months, but then i was on a really heavy period for 5 1/2 weeks and i was getting so frustratad and so was my boyfriend!!! we made the decision to come off cerazette as my doctor just told me to put up with it. 2 days after coming off cerazette i went back to normal, my period stopped and i felt so much better, at the moment me and my boyfriend are being very careful but after seeing my doctor she told me cerazette isnt really for people who have pcos!!!!! it doesnt help in any way really so shes currently researching one i can use!!!! ill keep u posted!!
I've been on cerazette for almost 2 months, and already my bleeding is pretty much stopped... I've had a bit of spotting, but apart from that, it's been fine! The only thing I'd say, is that when having sex, because I haven't had a period in a while, some blood does get into (I don't like to say it, but) cum, which makes it look like a horrible brownish colour, but it's just because of old blood coming out

I have been on Cerazette for over 2 yrs now. Best pill I have ever been on but it take did a while to get used to. For the first 2 or 3 months I bled pretty much every day with a few days off here and there. It didn't bother me because it wasn't that painful but it could be a nuisance. Then I would go a month or 2 with no bleeding whatsoever. Now I bleed for about a week maybe once or twice a month, so more like a normal period. Its rare for me to not bleed at least once a month for at least a few days.

I got told by my doctor that on this pill pretty much anything is normal. You shouldn't worry if you bleed a lot, shouldn't worry if you don't bleed at all. If its becoming painful or too much for you though, yeah go to your doctor and maybe talk about another pill?
I was originally taking Yasmin, which I got on really well with, but due to a family history of blood clots I was changed to cerazette. I started taking it at the end of April and I have been having a period every week with only weekend breaks. I have had one week break so far and ironically that week was the week I should have been on if I wasn't taking cerazette. I'm seriously struggling with this and my moods have changed, I'm normally a happy person but my boyfriend has noticed that I was a lot moodier recently. My mother suggested going to see the doctor but I know that she will say that I have to wait until it settles down because it hasn't been 3 months yet. I can't wait another week let alone another month.
Please tell me this will stop..
Did you ever have anymore problems with this? I was fine on it for 9 years and came off it to have a baby and since going back on it I've bled for 6 months so considering having a break like you

I started on Cerazette just three and a half weeks ago on the 2nd day of my cycle. Two weeks later, I got another period, not as painful but it's still dragging on 9 days later. Before starting on Cerazette I got extremely painful, debilitating periods where I was unable to walk for the first 2-3 days and it was absurdly heavy (both tampons and pads required and had to change them every hour). It's now better in that respect, but why is it still carrying on?! Ffs! 😂 Plus i am also even more depressed, crying constantly and starting to get acne.

3 weeks is way too long in my opinion, I'd get that checked out. It does say to contact your doctor if you experience prolonged bleeding. I'm leaving til 14 days and then contacting the doc.

Good luck 😘

Your health and wellbeing is the only thing that is important, don't worry about leaving it longer, if it's that ****, go see your doctor. That's really not good.

Hope it gets sorted!!
😘
Hi guys. I'm going to colse this thread just to prevent any confusion. It's an old thread that's been bumped and I don't want people accedentally responding to OP and all that. These things happen. It just gets a bit confusing is all. Besides, if OP is still around I'm sure they don't want loads of quotes about an old issue.

If anybody is having similar issues feel free to make a new thread about it.
