Lancaster?? Loughborough??

know there's going to be sooooooo many of these in the run up to the UCAS deadline, but I am really stuck.

Most people at school seem to have a uni they 100% want to go to and then an insurance. However my two top uni's require the same grades and to me practially seem on a par.

Loughborough downsides are:
- My family (cousins etc) lives there and say you have to go out to leicester/nottingham to get decent shops/bars etc.
- Loughborough as an area is a bit run down
- The whole uni appears slightly more run down then Lancaster

Lancaster downside is:
- The distance ( i live in London)
- The fact it's so far out of the rat race of London which I really want to come back to after my degree
- Theres only 10,000 students

But I really like them both, the coourse is the same for both, accomodation is as good for both. The libary slighty better at Lancaster, sports facilities slightly better at loughborough.

Anyone who's at either can you just give me a quick run down of the good AND bad points you have found.

THANK YOUUUUU

xx
Loughborough, you really don't have to go into Leicester and Nottingham for a good night out. I go out twice a week usually and had an AMAZING time, I've been to Nottingham once in the 6 months I've been here and not felt the need to go again. Your family members probably haven't been to the student union, it's won best in the country quite a few times and they're right! Town, you only go for the supermarket and Primark, it's like anything other town with it's good bits and bad bits. And the uni really isn't run down, they're refurbishing and propping up new buildings all the time and there's lots of green and open spaces due to all the sports pitches. Oh, and we rule sport (and therefore have the best looking boys). By a millllllion miles. FACT!

Ha yea Kate i noticed the guys when I was walking around!! :P
The accomodation does look really nice at Loughborough as well.
So if you wanted to go say clothes shopping - where would you go? Is there like river Island, topshop etc in Loughborough or would you have to go to leicester, or even as far as Nottingham??

xx
If you want lots of shopping, Lancaster isn't the best either... you've got to go to Preston, or Machester if you want a really good shopping day.

Lancaster is a really boring city. I can't comment on the Uni, but I've only heard good things about it from people I know who go there. You're going to have the same problems nightlife/shopping wise at both places.

LOL I find it funny that you might consider Loughborough over Lancaster.
Lancaster has a good nightlife, the campus and uni is quite modern compared to most unis.

Loughborough is higher ranked than lancaster in most university tables, has better sports faulicities and doesn't make you take 2 subjects in first year, loughborough has a comparable if not better nightlife from what i've read. why would you find it funny that somebody would consider it over lancaster?
Well I'm at Lancs in my first year so I'll give this a go. Yes Lancs is a smaller city, meaning shopping isn't great but theres a good variety and you're so close to Manchester and Preston if you want more shops. Nightlife is good with 9 bars on campus alone, lots of bars and a few clubs in town. As far as distance is concerned I come from Essex and it was something that really worried me before and now has been nothing but a pro for me. Its meant I haven't felt the need to go home lots because its expensive and thats kept me socialising at the uni. Its not that much of a pain to get home especially if you're willing to hunt for a while for the best train tickets-Lancs to Euston can be anything from £20 to over £150 depending on how hard you hunt! As for the relativly small amount of students it really doesn't feel like that at all when you're there, in fact I wouldn't really consider it a small uni even though I know it is. Hope this helps you, feel free to ask me anything you want to
I was picking between Lancs and Leicester, so not too dissimilar...

I picked Lancs for the pure reason that both places do not have particularly great night life BUT it actually seems far better than Leicester's in my honest opinion. The accommodation (at least in terms of Leicester) pales in comparison.

I also come from London (very SE, so probably the furthest away from Lancaster in terms of London you could possibly get LOL) and I have no problem with this distance. For a 7 hour car ride, when we did it in September it actually flew by, and train should be (I think) a bit quicker.

I also didn't think 10,000 students was a small amount seeing as there's...10,000 students...I mean, do you know every single person at your college/secondary school personally? Probably not. I think it adds to the intimacy and the increased chance of actually make personable friends.

 Hope you choose Lancaster, *gives death stare to insurance* :P
