While half-conscious after the op I apparently asked my dad if he'd finished the crossword yet. I'm not quite sure why I'd say something like that when everyone is more panicky about whether I can move my feet =\ Lol, ooh well, the things you do when drugged up and anaethetised.

So have you had the two-stage op? Which surgeon did you have? I had Mr Lehovsky- awesome guy

Seven years before and six months after the operation I did have a brace, but only plain so it wasn't too obvious  I managed to conceal it by wearing hoodies and baggy clothing, so even some of my closest friends always forgot I was wearing it. I just feel like I suffered in that Boston brace for seven years, 23 hours a day, for pretty much nothing as I had to have the operation anyway. I didn't like the consultant at the Nuffield, Oxford, so we moved to the RNOH for the surgery with Lehov-"isn't it"-sky. Eight months later, and I'm doing almost everything again  You saw Mr Lehovsky for you 12 months, right?

ahh that must be so annoying! i only realised i had it when it was too late to do anything other than surgery so i never wore a brace before. wore one 6 months after (twas blue with multicoloured stars -im such a cool 16 year old!). saw him for the 12months and seeing him again next year. doing nearly everything cept sport- need a physio now cos my hips playing up.

Hehe, I've been having a bit of physio. I could barely lift my arms after 6 months, but now I'm so much better.

My curve started at around 30 degrees when I was 10, then with exercises I got it down to 25 degrees after a year. Then it slowly started getting worse, increasing by a few degrees each year reaching about 38. Then it went to 45 degrees in a year, and then 52 the next year so I had to have the surgery.

Two months (though some of it was over the Christmas holidays) So I have a good excuse for results day  The time off was totally awesome. I did painting and pretended to be slightly disabled whenever any household chores needed to be doing. Two months without having to tie up my own shoe laces!

hello just wondering if anybody out there has scoliosis?

My best friend from school had scoliosis.

One of my close friends, her younger sister has it. She's had the 1st part of her operation now (i think she's having a 2 stage op), she was wearing a brace for a year or so before that. She's doing well though from what I know.
I had a mild one that was discovered after 2 and a half years of competitive rowing: apparently it's one of the worst sports to do if you're going to have scoliosis. Lucky me :frown:

My back had been giving me trouble for a while so I went to the doctor, he checked my spine, had a few x-rays done and they discovered I had a mild scoliosis. I was 17. I had loads of physiotherapy. 2 years later, it had improved quite a bit. It's a shame they discovered it so late as I would have nothing if it was a few years earlier.

Apparently for scoliosis to be considered totally disabilitating, you have to have a 45 degree curvature. I'm nowhere near that.

What sucks is whatever sports I do, I'm always wondering if I'm not damaging my back. I used to be really active and after that, I lost all motivation.
my friend has scoliosis.. she had an operation for it in yr 10 (we have now finished yr13) and she has to go for regular check ups but the doctor said her spines curving again so she might need another operation :frown:
