Bump as this took a while to get approved.

You will just have to explain your symptoms and let them do the diagnosing and giving the drugs, you can't just ask for a medication like Ritalin, not like you can ask for the pill or acne tablets.

If I explain my symptoms, how likely is it that I'll get it though? Will they do any further testing at all or anything?

I'd like to hear from someone who has a prescription, just so I know if I should bother.

My GP just gave me Diazapam and expected it to help. All It did was make me fall asleep. That was a few years ago. I am going to go to him and ask some serious help.

With ADHD you should be reffered to specialists. People who will can diagnose you properly. It takes time like 3 months i think.

I know that you have to get referred to a specialist first, and they will want things like your full behavioral history, so reports, talking to parents and friends, etc.

You are better off buying some on the black market/moving to America. :yep:

modafinil > ritalin,

n00b.

It takes forever to be prescribed it - they try lots of other drugs and therapies first, with ritalin rarely being used in the UK these days. You will also have to have lots of constant tests to check you actually have ADHD and you will be required to go to a specialist.

In summary, not easy at all, especially if you don't have ADHD.

Very difficult to get Ritalin on prescription. Besides, the vast majority of ADHD cases are diagnosed during childhood. Do you have a diagnosis? If not, what symptoms are you experiencing?

Where do you buy yours from because the place my friend gets his Modafinil from has sent crappy cheap-o pills that don't do ****?

99% chance of OP trying to get "study drugs".

It can depend on your Dr/area I've heard.
I remember hearing of people with pretty severe symptoms who have really had to fight to get a prescription.

I, on the other hand, received little hesitation for any of my prescriptions - including Straterra which at the time was apparently very hard to get, as it was unlicensed and therefore pretty expensive, so you might be lucky I guess. :/
Assuming you have all the symptoms that can be expected for an official diagnosis, Ritalin MAY be considered.
As mentioned, other drugs/treatments are likely to be prescribed initially.

Sever difficulty with concentrating, when I'm actively trying to listen to someone, follow a lecture or anything I can't pay attention for more than 10 minutes. It takes me an entire day to do a few hours' work - which is what I do to catch up in my own time.

I thought this might be something to do with fatigue, because I'm always tired, even though I get 8-10 hours of sleep a night, even more on weekends. I constantly have my head on my desk, and in the morning I cannot function. But even when I'm not feeling tired I still can't really concentrate or work well.

Is there anything else I could ask for?

Don't ask for anything, go to the doctor, discuss your concerns and let them recommend treatment options. If they don't work then go back and ask if there's something else you can try.

Well I must have ADHD then too because everything you have said there is me!

It is very unlikely to be ADHD, more likely a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Go to the doc, they may be able to advise you on what is up.

Doesn't sound like ADHD, bro. You'll need a better cover story than that to get your meds.

It's not a cover story, I'm not trying to get 'study drugs'. My grades have been good throughout school and university, even by this site's standards.

It might seem paradoxical, but I have many symptoms of the 'inattentive' type, the reason I get things done is because I know I'm unreliable, so I set alarms and post notes everywhere so I don't forget things. I've been dealing with it in ways such as that for a long time, it's not that I suddenly want drugs for studying. Also, Ritalin isn't going to do your exams for you, you'd be an idiot to think you're suddenly going to do well really easily by taking it.

Anyway, I'm going to ask my doctor.

Not sure how old this post is but, as an actual BSc Psychology graduate who has been officially diagnosed with ADHD, I agree that you should check with your doctor. I was exactly the same re: inattentive behaviour. Always been an A student but I always wondered why it took me so much longer to get things done and why I got distracted constantly. Wasn't until I went to high school in the U.S. and started seeing my school therapist (for anxiety) that they referred me to a psychiatrist and put me on Vyvanse, then Adderall, and my whole life changed. It was like I was driving with the hand brake on my whole life without realising. It'll be difficult to get a prescription for methylphenidate (the stimulant used in these medications) in the UK but if you genuinely have concerns that you may have ADHD, definitely speak to your GP about it and keep persisting. It took me about 6 months to get a prescription for Ritalin and that's WITH my previous records and referrals from the U.S. the key word is
