We all know the carling cup is a load of rubbish that is completely un neccesary. I reckon it would be in the best interests of football for it to be abolished. To have two SIMILAR SET-UP national cups is stupid. It would put more emphasis on the FA cup and boost its standing. Plus the premiership clubs would be able to free up their schedule and concentrate on Prship and CL.

alternatively it could be held without premiership clubs and therefore make it more competitive whilst it won't have to put up with teams who field 2nd/3rd strength teams as they don't care about it (basically all the premiership teams) which would boost its image.

    what do ya reckon

    hahahahahaha WIGAN 1 - 0 ARSENAL

so i guess all of you who thought it will be a easy man utd arsenal final will have to hold on to your seats a bit more tightly, tonight. the way rovers have been playing lately, i see an 'upset' tomorrow at ewood, if you can even call it an 'upset', ROVERS 3 - 1 MAN UTD, and the one goal you do scab past friedel, will be a penalty coz of a louis saha dive, or probably ronaldo.

Gotta love the carling cup. When evil teams like Arsenal get beaten by Wigan Athletic it's a good day all round

I heard that it provides much needed revenue to Championship sides (unfortunately an important part of the game these days). Also, it gives the bigger clubs a chance to test their younger players who wouldn't normally get much first team football. Do you know what the situation in other countries is? It's produced some excellent games recently too, but with fixture congestion, maybe it's not such a good idea.
I'm not too sure really, but i'm inclined to maintain the staus quo.

(haha, "evil teams like Arsenal" )

For clubs such as the Blackburns etc it is an excellent cup to have.... we havent done particularly well in the past few years, but a good cup run with potentially a European spot at the end of it, gives the fans something to cheer about. A day out in Cardiff makes the season worthshile for a lot of us fans of smaller clubs, whilst the big guns dont necessarily like it, for many clubs it is a fun and entertaining cup to be involved in....

we have some lethal players at LMH. Twattybeard and Little Girls are supposed to be the Oxford number 1's, but tho they are damn good, i dont think they are that good.
any good yourself? we were thinking bout entering team at UEA....

The League Cup, is littered with tradition. And it must stay, the Premiership boys don't have to play their best teams, and this gives chances for Championship and perhaps lesser Premiership sides to take advantage, gain confidence from a cup run, or even get a place in Europe.

It is not stupid to have two cup competitions at all, indeed it is interesting for domestic teams (who otherwise wouldn't have this opportunity - other than in the playoffs) to contest a match played over two legs. Ask Paul Jewell now, whether he wants the Carling Cup or not, even though he is down to about 15 outfield players in his squad he would want it. Teams can treat it as they like, as they please, or as they need but there are rewards in there for teams that choose to use them. The LDV Vans trophy is held without Premiership or Championship clubs, there's plenty of romance in the FA Cup, a bit int the Carling but none really, the prem sides are needed (if Doncaster had beaten Arsenal it would have made their season and not necessarily knocked Arsenal's - they are already having a tough time of it)

but not such a good day knowing arsenal were not too bothered - 3 other pieces of silverware take priority over it!

doesn't the dumbing down by premiership teams just add to the D list status of it. And if premiership teams are only fielding 2nd/3rd strength sides then they are not really playing premiership teams are they!! which is probly what most of the wigan fans who stayed away were thinking aswell

p.s. the organisers must be dreading that it won't be a man utd - arsenal final

As said, it has to stay. If not for the Premiership clubs, for the lower leagues. If anything, change the flippin' dates so it doesn't overrun the FA Cup. Get rid of the replays in that too if you ask me.

rubbish - tradition is all but gone in football these days. The saturation of foreigners in the game (players, managers, owners) has all but wiped away the element of tradition.

How does having foreign players wipe away the tradition of the clubs?

you think foreign players know about the tradition and history of their club and the competitions. How can you associate modern day clubs with the ones of the past. Nowadays its all about money, before it was more about pride and passion.

Gives poorer teams a chance to win something. Never wanted to win it, never will. Having said that it does provide our youth (Arsenal) to have a run out.
