Can someone else collect your GCSE results?

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know if you can get someone else to collect your GCSE results (I'm talking my mum or dad, not a friend). I will be in London on the 25th and there's no way I can get home. However, I've heard that it's policy not to give out the results to anyone except the candidate, even to parents. Is this true? If no body collects them are they automatically posted? And if so, is it like in a week or will they come the next day? Sorry, I know this sounds v.v.panicky but I worry too much!

Cheers everyone,
Hannah

Hey,

I'm collecting a friend's 'coz she's away, but I think her mother told the school I'd be picking them up, so it's ok. Maybe if you can ring your school office to let them know who'll be collecting them? If you can't get through to the office, I dunno, I should think they will let your parents collect them.
My cousin was working so his mum collected his results from the school a couple of years back, however I dunno if my cousin had got in touch with the school prior to the results to explain the situation.

Personally, I don't think they should give the results to anybody else unless the candidate has specifically allowed them to do so-you don't know any of the crafty tricks someone might do to get hold of your results! lol

I'd advise you to phone school on Thursday(18th), as there should be people there then (A level results) and ask them if it would pe possible for your parents to collect your results. If this isn't possible, you could ask if they might be able to tell you the results over the phone.

With our school, if we want someone else to collect results for us, we have to hand write a note to the examinations officer.
Policy on this varies from school to school. You're right that some schools won't give results out to anyone except you and some schools also won't allow your results to be read out over the phone, in which case you'll have to wait until they're posted. They should be sent to you automatically after a certain point on the day, and depending on how good your postal service is, you should get them the next day, but definitely within a few days. Bex is right that Thursday would be a good day to phone if your school has a sixth form because staff will be there for A-level results day. Explain the situation and ask if it would be possible either for your parents to collect the results for you or for a teacher to tell you your results over the phone. If you can't get in touch with anyone before the day, send your parents in with ID just to see if they'll give them the results.

Thanks everyone! Unfortunatly my mum doesn't share the last name as me as she remarried and I kept my father's name - but if I hand write a note with her name on it AND ask her to take ID I'm hoping it will work! I will try ringing on A-level results day too - but I doubt anyone will be in the actual office area! xx
they will post them
I girl I know got her mum to collect her results last year and she didnt have to ask anyone first. Her mum is a governor tho...

This is the same at my school - although you could always get them posted. Either way, I think it is better if you inform them before hand (such as your Head of 6th form), so that they are at least aware of the situation.
I'm sure it will be fine - try not to worry! I would reinforce phoning on Thursday though.

Good Luck
