''Engine system fault'' Ford Fiesta

Hi guys, I have a 1.4Diesel '58 reg fiesta (the type before the new type.) When I first got the car, a couple of times I would hear a beep, then a red light and my trip computer would say 'engine system fault' but it'd go off straight away

I took it to the garage and they diagnosed some exhaust valve that was gone. That seemed to fix the problem. However about 2 months after the same thing happened. I took it back. They found nowt. Then it was fine for 3 months

Now in the past week it's been doing the same. However this time the warning stays on. It seems to go if I accelerate very quickly in 2nd or 3rd gear (not helpful on 30mph road)

My grandad suggested it might be dust in the engine because diesel's are very 'fine tuned' ? Could this be the case? I really don't wanna take it back to the garage again!

Thanks and I'm terrible with knowing about cars so you may have to use basic terms :P

Which light is on? is it the main engine light or the powertrain light?only FORScan software will read the Powertrain light fault code.
