Hi there,

I was wondering, does anybody of you here know, what level from the common european framework could be assigned to IB Language B (HL)?

btw, link to CEF description - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_European_Framework_of_Reference_for_Languages

thanks

I would say, based on my friend's experience, that it is somewhere between B2 & C1.

Thanks...

What do you think, could it be found somewhere "official"? (some IB resources...)

I got a 6 at HL language B and was placed in roughly B2 (like most freshers)
You might be able to find it on the IBO website, as I imagine that it's a question that they're used to.

I browsed the IBO website and found one presentation that states that "The IB is investigating the possibility of external research into comparing the levels of language in the courses with externally recognized standards such as the Common European Framework..." and that "Language B HL will be considered an excellent preparation for the study of the target language [as a foreign language] at university."
This means that IBO itself hasn't got specific documention on Language B comparing it with CEF... However, it is not really important, since it should be considered as a sufficient certificate of Engish (or any other language) proficiency for Unis...

I was researching this. I found a couple documents that state their organization's entry requirements. On the list, they state that, amongst others, they accept an I.B. diploma and evidence of having achieved a B2 level. For example, on the "English language proficiency list of recognized qualifications & certificates" they include "5. International Baccalaureate Diploma." OR "7. Certificates confirming proficiency in English language on minimum B2 level according to the global language proficiency of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR)":" This school has similar requirements. And so does the University of Warsaw
