Edexcel Marking Fiasco

according to THE DAILY MAIL (PAGE 37), edexcel online markers who marked as/a level papers were given an indication of whether they were marking quick enough. Apparently after marking a script a traffic light appeared green was Good and red being below the standards. According to the paper who quote an anonymous marker, the system pressurised markers as if they consistently gained green lights they would be granted a bonus of £112.00 (on top of their £500.00 for 50 hrs of marking).

I was just wondering what implication u guys think this will have on the accuracy of marking.

I'm not doing A-Levels until September, but I wonder if they are doing the same thing with GCSE (thankfully I don't do Edexcel). I think the article would make an interesting read though, so I#'m going to try and find it.
They best be fair with my Geography paper. I need an A for university!

i'm worried as 3 out of 4 AS subjects I am doing are with edexcel.
To be honest, the majority of markers will try and get the bonus, but i'm just hoping that they mark competantly.

Me too, including the one I'd really like a high A in because I want to do it at uni  :frown:

Try not to worry, two points:
(1) The Daily Mail is a tabloid and is thus inevitably unreliable.
(2) They are just as likely to overmark your paper as undermark it and even in the event that papers were undermarked; the raw to ums process would compensate.

Lol I know, they seem to be the dodgy exam board! Typical that 3 of my 4 subjects had to be flippin' Edexcel!

You can never trust edexcel...i rather of done AQA, although this board is more for people who just read and remember than working on concepts. Last year a friend of mine got rejected from sheffield for medicine because the examiner put 400/600 as her grade..when remarked she got 582/600. She is now doing biomedical science.

I hope you're right Gaz031...I've already messed up enough without them.
And may I ask why Edexcel has such a crappy reputation?

It's the Daily Mail - how much did they pay their source for the information in the first place?!?

Most of the subjects we do at my school are Edexcel - suposily they set the best papers that are the least learn-this-and-regergetate (sp?!), but this is somewhat over shadowed by marking fiascos. Overall, what are we going to do about it even if this is the case? We put our trust into Edexcel, they screw it up, the papers go wild with excitement and we just get on with it. What's new?
