Vetsim and vetsix

Hi, could anyone who has been to either vetsim or vetsix please give their opinions of it, also whether it was useful to applying for vetmed if you did/have/are going to. and, what is the difference between vetsix core and vetsix plus? I have looked on the website, but i can't find out the difference, or the dates for vetsim apart from sometime in July. Thanks,
Katie

If it's anything like medsix and medsim, replace the word 'med' with the word 'con'...

i went to vetsix, it was alright, I had a good time and met some nice people. i learnt some stuff and now have a vague idea of what happens with uni and lectures and halls etc. but i never wrote that I went on my ucas form or mentioned it at any point during either of my interviews. so yeah, it was alright but i never really considered it important or unusual enough to mention!

vetsix [and THE EDGE, WHICH YOU MUST DO] is stupidly expensive, but what I did find is that I made good contacts and friends that help each other out with things, and the knowledge is rather useful.

i found it very helpful esp the edge as were im from no one had done veterinary before and i didnt know any one who was applying so it was good for me to be able to find out useful information about applying that i would not have found out from anywhere else.

I went to vetsim..i think? One of them in Notts anyway..... enjoyed it and liked learning about other areas like equine surgery and stuff, the man doing the thing about getting into vet school was just scary and a bit OTT and americanised for me... but then again I already had interviews when I went there so don't listen to me! I would definitely go if you've got spare cash floating around... but if not, much better to spend a week at a stables/farm/clinic/zoo etc! I think its sometimes better to leave it off your PS... at vetsim they go on about not saying the cliche lines at interview etc...but give just give you new ones which they are just waiting for!!

I got an offer from RVC and Bristol, am starting at Bristol in October (had a gap year and applied for deferred entry), if anyone wants a chat abut anything vetty..work experience, personal statements etc PM me!

alreet peeps! rite, back to the whole vetsim/vetsix thingy majiggers! i went on vetsix, t'will be nearly 2 years ago, wud say tis v good n informative, n v useful for the interviews- esp the edge, altho the guy is a bit of a p***k, but tis still good! wud defo make an effort to go, as is useful 4 interviews n ucas form- but DONT put it down, as other vet unis (apart from notts- has it opened yet?) may count it against you! tis also a good way of seein wot uni is like (slightly) n meetin new peeps!
the difference between vetsix n sim is the vetsix is a 1st kinda intro thing to vet med/sci and is actually useful, whilst vetsim is where you actually get to do things with animals and recieve some certificates at the end (i think, or at least u cud in our year) i didnt actuall go to vetsim, as that AND vetsix was a hefty sum- plus it seemed like a thing for peeps with too much money n time on there hands (come on you dont have to be THAT obsessed)- i mean if you get in, u're gonna have 5- 6 years of SOLID work n work exp, so fine, by all means do a wide range and sufficient work experience, but dont O.D it- enjoy the freedom and fun whilst it lasts!

Remember- no-one ever said on their deathbed 'i wish i'd spent more time in the office' Life is out there.

Thanks for replying everyone. I'm still not sure whether to apply for a place or not. Do you think it would be better to do more work experience instead?

By the way, jools holland is good. I saw him at the UEA a while ago.

I would definatly rate Vetsim over Vetsix, for the sake of the hands on experience it gives you with different animals. Can't say I would have come into contact with llamas, guanacos, bearded dragons, and as many snakes and spiders at work experience.
It is expensive, but as I was the only one at my school with an interest in veterinary and with friends who couldn't care less about animals in general, the exposure to so many people with similar interests was invaluable.
Vetsim only lasts a few days, I don't think it would have to take up time that would otherwise be spent doing work experience, which is of course irreplaceable.

Put down Goldney... so desperately want to go there but its so popular I'm not trying to get my hopes up, same question?

Are we supposed to move in on the 1st Oct then? How did you know that? Really looking forward to it now I got the info pack and everything, centaur sounds fab, did you get the pack or are you still one of those poor peeps waiting for results? Personally would go to see Jools, he's fab!
