What's it like living in Liverpool?

I'm so stuck with which uni to go to!

I like Liverpool as a place to visit, but I can't imagine what it's like to actually live there.

I'm only gonna have 10 hours a week in uni so I'm gonna have a lot of spare time on my hands  don't know if thats a good or bad thing to be honest..

Jus wondering what Liverpools like to live in and what students do in their spare time, I don't even do sport so I can't do that to fill my time either!

Probably very much like every other major city in the UK?
Good nightlife though, although I'd imagine there's a few pubs you want to avoid depending on what football team you support.

If you have lived in a city, its like living in a city, if you haven't lived in a city its better than where you live now.

Nothing like that in the City centre where students would go. There are the obvious ones to avoid depending on allegiances though such as Aldo's bar (it being part-owned by John Aldridge).

There are a very very small number outside of the city centre as well, but most Liverpool and Everton supporters get on very well.
It's a great place to live really. I miss it. Much more relaxed than London but still quite built up with everything you need. People are nice and friendly too. Just be careful on nights out sometimes, can get a little rough.
I love living in Liverpool. Good nightlife, lovely people with a good sense of humour and not too bad for shopping either... what more could you want?

I'm a final year, and have enjoyed living in Liverpool. It's got a good atmosphere and of course a good nightlife. Also, it's easy to get around (in terms of buses) and everything within the city centre is within walking distance. Also the people are really nice too .

In terms of free time, there's plenty of societies to get involved with, though you will probably spend a fair bit of time doing SDL :P.

As for football, every scouser will have an opinion either way, but it's more a friendly rivalry than anything violent (I've been in the city and at Goodison on derby day and never seen any trouble :P)
Contrary to popular belief the Liverpool people are just lovely. Like every city you've got to watch out for the rougher areas but if you're sensible then you'll have a really good time in the city.

The city is great for students! with 4 or 5 universities (depending on whether you class LIPA as a university) the city is very much a 'student city'.

The city has venues for all interest groups, all music affiliations, and great provision for shopping with the recently built L1 (LiverpoolOne)

It is also ranked the second cheapest place to live for students in the UK.

I have lived in and around the area my entire life, (20 years) and I have never encountered anti-social behaviour. The preconception that people have about Liverpool, (specifically the association with scousers being theives) is totally inaccurate and the city has been and still is undergoing major regeneration with billions of pounds of development grants funded from the European development budget, following the capital of culture year.

I think it's a really great city in which to experience university life, you will never be short of a place to eat, sleep, shop, party, drink, socialise! If I hadn't lived here all my life and known the area so explicity, I would have no problem studying in Liverpool, I just want to experience other places. I have friends who also live in Liverpool who refuse to leave the city for their university experience.

So do you think you're gonna go to uni in Liverpool then?

It seems good because when I go there I just get this buzz lol, I had my heart set on Manchester though and I got offers from both unis but in one of them the course wasn't right and I really hated MMU :frown: So my options are between Liverpool and Bangor, and I'd rather go to Liverpool because its away from home but I can't seem to get myself to be excited about it or anything for some reason!

My mate is in LIPA and he really loves it.. I think. He is the proper partying type though.. out all the time! I'm not at the moment but I might change when I get to uni :P

I've heard Paddy's bar is pretty legendary, just up the road from the 02 Academy...not been in myself but went to the chippy next door last month.

Really? What do you do like? I cnt imagine going shopping and stuff everyday...

When I seriously think about it its like Bangor has got a better Psychology department and I probably would have fun there but its just gonna be the same as everything I know already. Same places as I go out now.. same people! And I really want my independence. I'm just worried about getting bored in Liverpool.. if I was only in 3 days a week I could get a job but its not that easy to get a job these days lol.

And I really wanna quit my current job...

Me neither! Thats why I wanna try and get a feel for the place. I'm gonna go down in the Easter holidays for like a shopping day and to have a look around (even though I've been shopping there about 10 times). I like all the touristy stuff but I'm not gonna be doing that all year am I... only in the first few weeks.

Well, as for a job, because theres so many shops, bars etc in the city you can pick up work rather easily to be honest, and with being a student you will be favoured for those positions.
I myself work in McDonalds (dont judge me haha) atm and its not too bad but I am looking for a barmans job whilst at Uni.

Boredom...hmm, there is:

-Cinemas
-Restraunts
-Bars and Clubs
-Parks
-FOOTBALL
-Echo arena
-The big wheel
-Theatres

Theres more than you're gonna get in most cities put it that way
You seriously wont regret coming here!

Liverpool has a lot going on in it, and you can get the train in to Manchester if need be.
I used to live in Anglesey-moving up here has been a fantastic choice.
Good luck choosing
