New Zealand has two Anthems and I believe it is the only country in the world that does so.

"God Defend New Zealand" is the primary one but they can also sing "God Save The Queen" although I have never heard them use the latter.

God Defend New Zealand is definatly one of the better ones out there.

    for the first thing

the fact that we beat you in about 1775 when you had the best army in the world and we had pitchforks (and the french which isnt much better)

second....we won the war of 1812 and kicked you out of america AGAIN, while using a MILILTIA......more farmers with pitchforks

    third...we won bith WW1 and WW2
But problem is that we invaded Washington and burnt down the white house, also one thing...we left one guard in washington, and surprise surprise the americans didnt try to take over the city...

the only reason he became the president of america is britans fault.....they wouldn't commission him into the regular army! so he led ours.....and he won, and was the greatest president we've ever had! all because of the army not letting him join.....

More history lessons from the Americans.

Britain's defeat in 1775 was made possible because of a thing called "imperial overstretch", something the US is only now starting to learn about.

Think about it. The year 1775. If my history serves me correct around half the globe was covered Empire red and frankly Britain had far more important colonies to keep control of than America.

Oddly enough, most Americans believe that the US was a fantastic place in 1775. The truth is it wasn't. It was a vast wilderness that hadn't yielded an awful lot and frankly places such as India where a lot more important and deserving of our time.

So, toss up. Give up India and similar money spinning places or get embroiled in a battle with the French for the sake of holding onto a wilderness at all. What would you do?

It always makes me laugh when Americans, who have not performed overly well in the combat theater (lost in Vietnam, miserable draw in Korea, ran out on Lebanon, even ran away from Liberia!) like to take credit for WWI and WWII.

I think Britain owes rather more to her own sacrifices in WWI and Russian sacrifices in WWII than the fashionably late Americans in either of these world events.

The US's armed forces really are nothing to sing about. Look at Iraq. Basra, administered by the Brits seems to be doing OK. Baghdad, by contrast is an utter disaster.

Similar story in Afghanistan. Two years on and it's still only Kabul that's "relatively safe" to be in. The rest of the country is in a state of total anarchy because American troops barricade themselves in their baracks and spend all day eating pizza and watching DVD's.

Only in the US army is it possible to be stationed overseas and know more about the country you are in before you go than after a year or mores service.

America is a great country but as Brits I don't think we don't need lessons on history or lectures on the (imagined) superiority of the US fighting man from the Americans.

It was more of a civil war, all your generals had been trained in the British army. And you didn't have pitchforks, you were as well-equipped as we were, is that what you are taught in American schools?

No, you did have uniforms, and guns, and canons, you even had drummers!!

a civil war is when a country fights amongst itself, which is, in effect, what this was.

    Excuse me?

A civil war is a war fought internally. Until America gained it's independence all the folks living in it (save French controlled LA) were subjects of the crown. In other words Brits living overseas.....expats!

The American war of independene was therefore one group of Brits fighting another group of Brits. That is a civil was by any measure of the definition.
