Get up early and get a good nights sleep. A good routine keeps metabolism efficient.

Excercise wise, its best done in the morning. That keeps metabolism high through the day.

Also cut down on the fatty type food intake and concentrate on proteins. Fish is good. Helps metabolism

Well. Start doing some weights and cardio at the gym, and not only will you increase metabolism, but also burn calories. And, if you go on a diet then regardless of how slow your metabolism is you'd at least lose some weight - unless you have a stupidly freakishly low metabolism, but I guess that would have been diagnoised or something ages ago! Also, you should try to eat 5 times a day to keep the metabolism working as it were!

Increasing metabolism is another way of saying burning calories, do you need anymore specifics ?

If you have a slow metabolism it means you don't burn many calories just living, so you need to burn more from exercise or eat less.

Again, it simply comes down to calories in>calories out = weight gain and vice versa.

Heres a good little article I just read that might help you:

Having a slow metabolism and poor circulation are also huge problems of mine. I try and exercise more to speed it up. However, the small frequent meals / 5 meals a day thing doesn't work for me - or actually i don't even dare to try it again (have tried it before).

i have eating disorder and it's difficult for me to do small, frequent meals or eat whenever i'm "hungry".

They're not huge problems at all, when people say slow metabolism(who told you this by the way?) it means you burn a few hundred less calories a day, the difference between eating a mars bar and not.

If you wanna increase your metabolism you can increase the amount of muscle you have(not an amazing option for girls) or do regular exercise, the key being regular, here its not about calorie burning as such, its about conditioning your body to burn more fat at rest at become more efficient at fat burning, thereby increasing your metabolic rate at rest. You can also gear your cardio towards higher intensity interval training, where more fat calories are burned after exercise, and which further increases your resting metabolic rate and your percentage of calories burned from fat during exercise and rest.

Other than that, SMALL, regular meals will also help solve the problem, and if you plan on doing more than 1 type of exercise a day, for example if you did some weights then went for a run, try and split them up during the day, so one in the morning and one in the evening, rather than doing them together, as this way your metabolism gets a "boost" twice a day rather than just once.

Work out with weight...the more muscle you have the faster your metabolic rate will be. For every extra lb of muscle you gain, your are likely to burn an extra 30-50calories per day from doing nothing.
Also try to eat 6 small meals a day, instead of less bigger ones. Every time you eat your metabolism increases, and slows down after you havent eaten for a while.

excercise in the morning an have breakfast allways! this is your kick start for your matabolism! never skip breakfast! good luck! x

You could try not going more than 3 hours without eating something - not necessarily a meal but it's been suggested that eating this often will increase your metabolism.

gum, green tea, moving, exercise, and you should have 6 small meals, and yesterday I've read that you should have a complex carbs before going to the gym like fruits or something and after coming back with in 30 minutes, and after 2 hours you should have your main meal:biggrin:
