Ooh, I could be over by then. Not sure when I'm coming as I don't know when the term starts and when fresher's week is.
    Anyone know yet?

Uni and course: Manchester - International Management with American Business Studies (will prob change it to avoid the year in America though!)
Year (as of September 2005): Fresher!!!
    Halls: Oak House, Chestnut Court

Interests: I love live music (both watching, and playing!), films, reading (andy mcnab, tolkien, crichton, robert ludlam etc ), going to the gym - also am hoping on joining a few sports teams (rugby, football especially). I enjoy watching sports - Cricket, Tennis and Rugby being my favs! Poker (although not for too much money! ), and just generally going out and drinking vastly! Am also interested in joining the RAF after I finish my degree!

Music: My tastes range from Metallica and Iron Maiden, to Justin Timberlake and Eminem and up to Chopin and Rachmaninoff, with pretty much everything in between. Recently, I've been into Pearl Jam, STP, QOTSA, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, The Doors and Led Zeppelin the most, so I guess you'd say i'm more into the 'rock'-ier stuff!

well i haven't played in a team for about 2 years due to a dislocated knee that gave me problems for quite a while, but I used to play tighthead prop, although now, having lost quite a bit of weight, and gained some pace, I think I'd be more suited to second row, or possibly number 8. I don't really wanna take it too seriously, as I need to bulk out a little first, but it'd be good to get playing again, while I get down the gym a bit more! How about you man?

With regards to the RAF, I really wanted to be a pilot, but with the fact I wear glasses, and am over 6ft 3", this is not particulary realistic now. I'd like to go into logistics, possibly even the Information Technology side of the forces. Have you got similar aspirations?

I play hooker, openside or a short no8, (or even scrum half) team is really desperate I can hold my own as either prop, I have played every position in the pack at some point (even 2nd row!). i'm only about 5' 9 but that because I've got no neck (lol). My always seems to get knackered no matter how small it is.

I always wanted to be a pilot, too competitive to get in tho, spent years in the Air Cadets. After Uni I want to join one of the three services, Warfare officer in the navy maybe, or if I can, Infantry or RM officer.

yeah i know how you mean, I guess being a Pilot is the most glamorous job in the RAF, so makes sense that it's ridiculously competitive. Like you, I'd be interested in any of the forces (Army and RAF more so than the Navy though), specifically going into Officer's training... Do you know of any cadet corps at Manchester? I heard there was an ATC unit?

i mean i was going to join the OTC, i asked the navy career officer how it would affect my aspirations to join the navy and he had a go at me for not looking at the other cadet services, i only said "i was thinking of..."

theres the UAS (university air squadron - RAF)
    URNU (university royal navy unit)
OTC (officer training corps - Army)
