Go with a good independent school/company. These figures you are quoting sound completely ridiculously high to me.

I paid £19.50 an hour for my driving lessons with an independent instructor. Win.

BSM only has about a 60% pass rate apparently. You can do better with a private instructor.

what would you guys recommend me to do???

Reply 6

I was with an independent instructor, I passed my test the very first time. My friend is with BSM and he's having a horrible time with them, the instructor is always late, he's extremely rude and all he wants is his money really. My instructor was a legend, seriously, I had such a good time learning to drive. I also know a couple of people who were with BSM, and they failed the first time. You will probably get it cheaper if you go independent.

I paid 20 per hour. Prices quoted are too high imo

Reply 8

Go with a smaller company. you can get it much cheaper than that and you'll probably get a better quality lesson.

I got mine for £18 an hour. Double win.

It's hard to find a good private instructor.

My private instructor charges £21 p/hour and she's great

Me and my two siblings all passed first time with independant instructors, all the people I know who used my instructor also passed first time too with a fair amount of lessons (not ripped off).

Independant instructors rely on their reputation to get custom wheras the larger ones use their size and name so the quality can sometimes be hit and miss.

local independent. I got mine for £15.50. Do I win?

:ditto:

It sounds to me like you are / would be paying way too much for lessons from those companies. Personally, I learnt to drive with a small, local driving school who charged £18 for lessons if you booked them in blocks or £20 per single lesson - I passed first time with them too and had a really good time learning to drive, in comparison to some of my friends that went with the larger firms.

My first BSM instructor was sacked for sexually harassing the girls.

When I get the chance to, I'm going with an independent instructor.

Reply 17

I'd go private if i were you. Private instructors have to work for their own repuation so they're more likely to treat you better than a big company who are only concerned with churning out a high pass rate because they think it looks good. Which is probably why they cost soo much.

What would you recommend then?

Reply 19

Mine charges me £20 an hour, but she's a local person so unless you lived near me you'd have no chance there haha.
