Hi,

You have two choices really, on or off campus. There are pros and cons attached to both.

With on-campus accommodation your close to your lectures etc which is why they are normally more popular than off-campus.

However, the UNITE accommodation (Waterside and Charlton Court) is very good in terms of quality,I opted for Waterside Court. However, you do need to get a bus into university. However, the great thing is about the off-campus accommodation is that it sits almost perfectly distance-wise between the university and the city centre. Buses come down the road into town every 10 minutes on top of the university buses. Whereas the transport from university is solely the orange bus, which is fine in the week as it comes every 20 minutes. Though you may find it restrictive at the weekend when it only comes every hour and in the evenings during the week.

Just reading the prospectus now. How much extra did you have to pay for internet? And did you find it a bit of a pain having to get the bus to the university?

I've got an unconditional for Bath Spa and I'm wanting to firm it, but I have to wait for the rest of my decisions, which means I can't get an accommodation info thing from Bath Spa yet. I just wondered what the best places are etc. to give me an idea of where I want to apply so that I can hurry it up when I accept my place. Any ideas?

Accepting bath was a mistake unless you either very rich or want to act like you are 50 years old.

Living the area for the past 19 years i have learned that the nightlife is poor, it is expensive and there is a massive class divide (lots of rich people who stick to their circles and look down on the rest of us commoners)

On the plus side it is a nice area, clean, lots of history - old buildings etc. For students, due to the cost, lack of nightlife and things to do - not great IMO.

If i was you, i would try living in Bristol and train in - better for students, cheaper, more fun.

I'm glad you asked this, the internet isn't very good value. As I recall, Unite offers two tiers of internert service. A 'lite' for about £4 a week and a 'super' service for about £7 a week.

Different people will give you different answers with the bus. I found it to be no problem at all, buses come regularly and are on time for the most part. The bus stop is about 2 minutes walk from the halls, and there is a bus stop right outside the halls to take you in to the city centre.

I don't know what to make of this. I, like you, have lived in the area all my life and have been to university here.

When I lived in Bath (I now commute from a nearby town), there wasn't much evidence of a class divide. Also, I don't see why this would concern you anyway, as your going to be for the most part associating with other students who have come from all over the country.

The nightlife in Bath is fine for most people. But you'll find you get round the places quite quickly. If you fancy something different one night just hop on the train to Bristol.

That sounds alright. Did you have an en-suite or is it just Charlton Court that has en-suite? And did you have a 40 week contract? Most have a 45 week contract meaning you don't have to vacate the room during holidays... Did you have to move your stuff out in holidays?

Contracts were from mid September to mid June I believe. You dont need to move anything out during the christmas or easter breaks. All the rooms at Waterside are ensuites.

I really like the look of Waterside Court. Would I be right in saying that it's accommodation for first years only?

Yeah, first years only .

That's good  Is it a nice place to live? From what I've read it seems that it's not as popular as the on campus halls, but I can't see why! Any bad things about it?

I lived in Waterside in my first year and loved it. You get to know so many other people living there and because it's off site it's a lot easier to get to town etc. I def recommend it!

Does anyone know how far the Waterside accommodation is from the Sion Hill campus?

I know Bankside is waaay closer but I'd like to live in Waterside because it's cheaper, you get your own bathroom, and it's more sociable.

But I'd like to be able to walk to uni every morning rather than having to pay for a bus. Is it really far/long? xx
I was looking at applying for accomodation through the unite website but the only options are for charlton court and a 51 week contract which I really don't want or need, as I would much prefer Waterside Court for a 45 week contract. Do I need to wait till the offer comes up on ucas and then firm it till I have more option for the right accomodation? Or do I have to do it independantly for a longer contract? I am insanely confused and would love some advice!

hey i've litereally just been on the bath spa accommodation website and i do really like the look of waterside court. on the other hand, as internet is on top of the price, charlton court isn't that much more expensive. it's quite shocking how much it all adds up to to be honest, i'm doing an art foundation in bournemouth at the moment and only pay about 85 pounds a week for a house, bills included, which is 5 mins walk from uni... oh well, suppose bath is a really nice place!
i don't think i'll mind having to walk to sion hill everyday, i'm sure life at the halls downtown will make up for it. it's worth the walk if you get to meet lots of different people from all over the place. i wouldn't want to go to bankside because it looks tiny and a bit too far away from where stuff happens if you know what i mean?!
i've confirmed my place yesterday, so i'm pretty sure bath is gonna get in contact with me soon. does anyone have any idea when they'll open application forms for halls?
@prowan: i'm based at sion hill, too. what course are you doing?

It's a fair old walk, about 2.5 km, but bare in mind its uphill for about half of that, and it's a pretty steep hill too!
