internal bleedign

hi there

i gave blood last thursday and it was all fine. the needle hole seemed to have healed well.

but i just went for a slash and noticed that it was bleeding just under the skin right around the puncture (like if you get your finger caught in something and it bleeds just under the skin).

its not bleeding externally and it doesnt really hurt.

am i going to die? at what point should i go see the doctor?

thanks

thanks ramsy but i was looking for something a bit more serious :p:

the 'bleed' is about 5mm in diameter (so not big at all)

/edit i reread your post. i thought you said i WAS going to die.

you think i need to see the doc ASAP  why whats wrong?!

You'll die at some point. You're probably better off visiting the doctor before rater than after

A bruise is just blood under the skin. It's no big deal. If it gets bigger/doesn't fade soon, then go to your doctor, otherwise really don't stress about it.

if someone pokes a hole into your vein in order to remove a load of blood, would you expect some to leak out both under and out of the skin after the bneedle is pulled out?!

its perfectly normal, i had the same when i was in hospital and had my IV taken out. Within a few days it was back to normal.

Of course if you start gushing blood because the needle hole reopens or it gets dematically worse, doubles in size for example id seek medical advice.

Well each time isnt going to be the same. You can have a dodgy nurse mess it up and bruise you more. You can have an unbalance in your blood minerals and vitamins etc, which makes you prone to bruising. Providing your not on any blood thinning medication, i really think you have nothing to worry about.

Dude it is this simple
1) the nurse poked right through your vein by accident
2) the nurse hit the artery by mistake
3) you didn't press hard enough on the site after the needle was withdrawn.

Or alternatively you have leaukaemia or liver disease o rkidney disease...

Fah, in 99.9999% of cases its gonna be one fo the first 3!

It is quite common really..a bruise after an injection or something similar. I've had the most horrendous bruises as a result of simple things like needles.

It's a tiny bruise or a minute haematoma. Absolutely nothing to worry about

Every time I've had morphine IV I had a hideous yellow bruise down the front of my wrist. It happens :-)

I got a massive bruise from a blood test cos I moved my arm a bit. It happens, it's fine.
