    Hey Guys

Im currently awaiting my AS results in : Maths, Biology,Physics,ICT and General Studs.

My school forces us to drop an AS subject and having delayed this for so long I must make my decision on thursday. (General Studs is compulsary)

What would you recommend? I enjoy all my subjects! I want to go into engineering, possibly applying to Cambridge.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

ICT, IMO. I don't think that the ICT course is particularly relevant to Engineering as much as the other subjects can be, since ICT doesn't quite focus on the right parts of the application of computers. Maths and Physics definitely cannot be dropped, that's for certain, and I think that having another full science will sway the university in your favour. Plus, if you do do Biology, it could come in useful if you find that you would like to specialise in Biomedical Engineering.

Yep, as per post above. Definitely drop ICT. It sticks out like a sore thumb out of your choices, as the one to drop.

I disagree. Drop Biology! Its hard and has no relevence in engineering. Whereas ICT is easy, so you can get a good grade with little effort.
ICT is relevent in engineering as you will find that you will be spending some time learning CAD skills in lectures.

There both just as do-able for me, its not a question of difficulty, just suitability

I assure you, A2 Biology will require much more work than ICT.
ICT is a joke, a monkey could get an A.

I have replied to your post in the Engineering forum.

Reading the above posts, they say CAD is becoming prevalent in Engineering

Do you want to do any specific engineering or just General

Biology might help for Chemical Engineering but ICT will help for the other disciplines

Drop the ICT, it's not very well respected.

I still say drop ICT. It wont put you at an advantage (i doubt many other engineering students would have done it). If it was Computing it would help, but not ICT. Most engineers go into uni with sciences, and besides biology is much more respected.

I would say drop biology as they look for breath of subjects but what you’re left with is ICT which as people have said is not to well respected, I did chemistry and computing in my first and had a similar choice to you as I applied to oxford. I choose to drop computing as although chemistry is a lot harder and doesn't give you the breath of subjects it is more respected as a subject, but that’s just me.

Well, you obviously need maths and physics, and you said General Studies was compulsory, so that leaves biology or ICT and I think you should just keep the one you prefer. As others have pointed out, both could be relevant depending on the type of engineering you go into. Biology is more respected, but since you have 2 respected subjects already, it probably wouldn't make that much difference.

I would wait until results day to decide whether to drop Biology or ICT. I don't think admissions tutor will mind which one you take (Biology or ICT), as long as you have a good grade in it.

They only need maths and physics, they don't really care about the third subject. That's what I was told at the interview

    I'd drop Biology tbh.

I would drop Biology or ICT and pick up AS further maths if you want.

biology is a very respected alevel, do not drop it. If you want to go to a top uni then drop ICT otherwise you will be putting yourself at risk.
