How can I get better quicker?

Hi everyone! I was feeling really ill yesterday, but thought it was just a cold. When I got up this morning though, I felt even worse, but I went into work as it’s a training week and also cos I really need the money. I had to come home after an hour as I was really dizzy and felt I couldn’t breathe properly. I got an appointment at the docs and he says I have a chest infection and pleurisy, and got me to blow into one of them peak flow things, I only managed to get 210, and 240 something, when I should be getting 491 for my height (apparently) so he says I only have 50% lung function. Also my asthma is making it worse. :bawling:

Anyhoo what I’d like to ask any of the medics is if there is anything I can do to get better quickly, as the more I miss work the more much needed money I lose! :frown: I honestly didn’t think it would hurt this bad! Every time I breath in or cough it knacks down the side of my ribcage and a bit in the middle. I’m so tired I’ve been in bed since 3 and only just got up, but couldn’t sleep much because I kept having to gasp for breathes. Even walking to the toilet completely wore me out, and I’m also really hot, apart from my hand and feet which are freezing, and I keep doing dizzy and have a banging head ache, are these related or is it just a cold on top of that?

Awww I feel so crap so anything that might make me get better quicker would be great! Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!

lie in bed, put a heater on, wear socks and a hat and make yourself sweat loads... that has worked for every infection I've had so far in my life.. (every cold, throat, + loads of random glands under my jaw). don't know why.. and as a disclaimer, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK KIDS!

No idea...stay warm, drink fluids, sweat it out, watch plenty of TV, and pray you win money through a radio content?: But I really do hope you feel better. I had a lung infection last summer and it was pretty bad.

--crossing fingers that you get well!--

Well assuming your taking 2 doses of your steroid inhalers morning and night and getting good sleep, there isnt much else you can do, asthmas tends to be worse in the evening, as that is when the pollen starts to settle, so avoid keeping those windows open!

If you need any advice on asthma just msg me, i managed a whopping 100 in the peak flow when i went to the docs last week  ^o) *proud*

Aww Gems, hope you feel better soon hun! :hugs:
Not being a medic - I can't provide any practical advice, but like they said, rest up in bed and make sure everyone looks after you! Don't try too hard to get better too quickly or you might make yourself worse! Just give into the illness and hope it passes quickly. Watch lots of Friends - that's what I'd do  . Big hugs - feel better soon. xxxx

if you do try the thing I suggested, make sure you get really hot and stay hot for a while.. drink water as you will sweat a bit but if you keep very warm then you can watch TV or whatever.

Thanks for all your advice people! I'm still feeling really awful, maybe even worse, but I guess I might have to feel worse before I get better? I was asleep most the day, which I hate, cos I'm usually running around everywhere, but hopefull my medicine will kick in soon, then I can get back to work and get some money! hehe! Also, my chest is hurting a lot more today, and my back is really sore too...do you think thats normal?! Anyway thanks again! :hugs:
