Sussex Uni Accomodation

Hi,

I know this kinda thread has probably already been done hundreds of times before but here goes

I roughly know which accomodation I want to apply for but I was wondering what people thought of the Lewes Court Phases, I've heard its got quite a few mature students there (well phase 2 at least) and any thoughts on Stanmer Court, it seems like a nice place but I haven't heard much about it.

Also, strange question but is sharing a bathroom and toilet with other people hard/annoying/gross etc.?

I'm going next year and trying to decide the same thing.

Wondering if having my own bathroom is worth the extra money each week.

Top choice atm is Brighthelm, so would be sharing with 1/2 others...

I may splash out for lewes court/Swanborough if i can get good enough grades(AAA) to get the scholarship.

PS: Another person doing chemistry, woo!:woo: :woo: :woo: :woo: :woo:

I only got to visit Brighthelm and Swanborough at the post-offer open day :-(. Brighthelm is my favourite from what I've seen/heard but I'm thinking of the cheaper accommodation simply for financial reasons. Do you know if there is anywhere I can see pictures of East Slope and Park Houses/Village? The rooms that is.

I don't have any pics or know where any are myself.

Hopefully people that are living in east slope/park houses will read this thread over the next day or two and post some pics.

Although, tbh, the rooms are all pretty similiar in size/layout, the main differences between accomadations are the kitchens/social areas/bathrooms.

Yay chemistry! (really hoping I get in, I love Sussex!!) And yeah all the accomodation seems quite nice, its just down to personal preference, I know people there this year that absolutely love Park Village and East Slope  It's just not for me :p:

I've searched google but no pictures of rooms :frown:, unfortunately they're all on holiday at Sussex at the moment otherwise I'd ask some of the people I know for photos of East Slope and Park Village  they're all too lazy to already have photos :p: and MHorman is right, rooms are roughly similar apart from shared ones (where they're a little bigger than two rooms added together), the layout is different for each set of buildings but you get essentially the same space

Hi,
...

MHorman
I'm
...

I stayed in Stanmer, was a nice place - it's slightly off campus, across the road, so further away from some stuff, but probably closer to the Chemistry buildings than the other accommodations, as well as one of the shops and one of the bars. It's all new, en suite shower and toilet, decent place. We had a couple of problems with hot water, but that's probably sorted out by now. Swanborough is quite similar, but on the middle of campus.

I'm a 2nd year chemistry student, so any questions on that, or other questions about accommodation, go for it.

Ok, i got one, if you could pick accomadation now, after living there for a year, which one would you pick and why??

Also, random Chemistry question....

Is there a difference between the first year of MChem/BCs in Chemistry at all?

Does it just mean i have more lectures or less lectures or is it the same until the 2nd/3rd year?

i live in lewes court. Its awesome. phase 2 i mean, phase 1 is ok. Stanmer is so awesome it looks like a hotel..a posh hotel. Brighthelm would be my first choice if i applied again. They get their own washing machine
I live in Lewes Court Phase 2 it is awesome having own bathroom, I was originally in Park Village but managed to move. Personally if I was choosing the cheaper accomodation would choose park houses/east slope over park village purely because in park village the 3 level houses and 2 kitchens and no social areas other than hallways make it hard to socialise.

Brighthelm is AWESOME though, you get washing machines  however its quite a lot of post grads.

I have pics of both my park village room and lewes court room. So if anyone wants to see em let me know. As not totally sure how to post them here!
Excuse the Mess haha

Lewes Court Phase 2 Room (bigger desk and wardrobe)

en suite

Park Village Room (with sink) I was top floor so nicer than many, if your male you almost always get ground floor.

unfortunetly no, just a random basis, although if you dont apply before the deadline you def wont get what you want.

Ok, thanks. Which accommodation are in high-demand? If Sussex is my insurance, I doubt I'll get those so I want to steer clear of them :p:

Lewes Court Phase 2 Room ....

.....

Thanks, it's been a while since i saw them all...

Narrowed my top choice down to lewes court phase 2 and swanborough, followed by Brighthelm now...

Just need to earn lots of mons over summer to pay for the extra cost.

EDIT: When/how can we apply for accomadation?

At my open day they said it would be march but i've heard nothing.
i think i post this pretty much every time an accommodation thread comes up, but be aware that just because you've picked lewes court 2 and swanborough as the top choices, definitely does not mean you get them- everyone on my corridor in park houses had put it 6th and the lewes courts top! i've done a couple of long posts about all the accommodations, will just trawl through my history and post again...

You get a letter which gives you a website and username  then you rate them from top choice to bottom choice.
aha, here we go...

lewes courts are lovely. both phase 1 and 2 have got really nice openplan kitchen/living room/diners, and the rooms are a good size. i'd definitely pick phase 1 over phase 2 as phase two is right up the back of campus whereas 1 is more central, and the ensuite gets in the way of your room space! also, the bathroom space in phase 1 is more than adequate, you get 2 toilets, a shower and a 'bathshower' in each flat. we had that in my lancaster house corridor of TWELVE and i still never had any problems with sharing. sharing bathrooms really isnt a big deal i promise you (especially in the park houses as they get cleaned all the time)

all i've heard about stanmer is that it's pretty nice and new with ensuites, but its annoying to have to walk under the underpass to get into uni and to be like a 15 minute walk to eastslope bar...the location of it and its 'separateness' from the other accommodation is the only downside i think.

if i had to choose again i think i would still put brighthelm first, as it's lovely, theyre proper little houses with big rooms, and huge kitchen/diners, but saying that, i loved my lancaster house room because:

1) rooms are the biggest i'd come across on the whole of campus (because theres no huge ensuite in the way!), mine had much more floor space than lewes ph1 though this might be just lancaster...
2) everything got fixed uber-quickly because there were so many people using everything- sorting out fixing things in lewes court is apparently a pain...
3) the rent is so much cheaper and the bathroom space like i said before is not a compromise at all, it's nothing to fuss about
4) our kitchen was the smallest of the whole house, but it was still pretty fine to be honest, and the cleaners come in 3 times a week
5) living with 12 people on a corridor and 4 corridors on a floor, you meet so many more people! yet its so much quieter than east slope
6) its more central in campus
7) the tv room with the plasma is good for spooks/neighbours/x factor sessions

think thats about it...basically, if you're like me and put lewes courts and brighthelm top and park houses/village and east slope at the bottom, heres news: everyone does! to avoid getting upset if you get put there i am telling you it'll be fine. think carefully about which one of the 'bad three' ie east slope park village and park houses (the ones where most residents havent chosen to live there) youd prefer to end up with...

Really? Just coincidence? Or is there a reason for that?

Is eastslope really not wanted then?
