Cold wet flannels! Cover yourself in as many as you can, and keep them cool and wet.

will that reduce the redness and prevent peeling?

Or lay in a cold bath. Take some ibuprofen for the pain. And apparently milk is quite good if you wipe some of that one

Its very likely that it peel now. The only thing to reduce that chance is liberal amounts of after sun or moisturiser.

So... ive just been out all day and foolishly was unable to apply any suncream- i am now in agony! any suggestions of how i can sooth my skin- i have no after sun lotion! owch!

You have already burned your skin, the best thing to do is to make sure to not damage it more so that it can heal. Avoid the sun until its better, use a high factor Sun Block when you walk outside ( but don't apply it to areas that are very badly burnt, cover those with clothes instead) avoid tight clothes, use the very mildest soap you can find when you shower (No perfume) and make sure you do not get dehydrated.

Whatever you do - don't have a hot shower!! I made that mistake on holiday...I was in agony!

Cold bath. As cold as you can bear. Once you've been in for a while you won't even feel the temperature.

When you get out and dry put large amounts of aftersun on, or any moisturiser that is easy to put on. keep it open, like dont wear clothes over it. Keep topping it up and you may prevent peeling.

ALOE VERA, ALOE VERA, ALOE VERA!!! You will peel but this will minimalise it. Lots of moisturiser and cold flannels. Next time apply somthing (cream, oil wahtever just something!)

2 fab tips:

1) Tomatoes - yes, believe it or not, raw tomatoes smeared all over ur sunburn (& rubbed in) really does soothe the pain. It takes away the sting as well. Trust me on this one i'm not crazy
2) Hot showers - Go in the shower & gradually trun it hotter & hotter, making sure ur sunburn is getting wet. Its stings like a biatch, but is totally worth the pain as it also takes the sting out. It always works for me.

To prevent peeling, use cocoa butter. palmers cocoa lotion is fab. It's cheap too.

Ok, run cold bath, put in tea tree oil (a dash) and lie there for a bit. Then you will need to cover yourself in Aloe Vera, and possibltake some paracetmol to stop your skin throbbing. If very very bad sleep under a wet towel.

Don't get sunburnt!!!!
