Tonsilitis

Ouch I have got tonselitas and it hurts alot- it means I can't go to the gym as well; which just annoys me. But I have been in bed for the last 5 days moaning in agony. Anyway I thought I would share my pain- kinda share it out between everyone, and besides I can't get to sleep cause I have been in bed all day.

There is one good thing about having tonselitas and that is I havnt thought that much about my GCSE results purley because most of the time I have been asleep.

I went to the doctors and all he could say was how interesting my condition was because he hadn't seen tonselitas that bad for ages- and that he could imagine how much pain I was in. I always thought doctors were meant to help you feel better- well atleast he told me to tell my mum to buy me lots of vanilla ice cream. Unfortunatley I couldnt do that cause my mum and dad are on holiday in Italy (no I am not an abused child being left to fend for myself in a harsh world just incase you wondered.)

Anyway this is the first time I have had tonselitas (which is strange apparently because mostly people get it year after year) and he has put me on Ibuprofen (which taste nice,) paracetomal, erthromycin, and phenoxymethylpenicillin. And when I take them it makes me feel like I want to puke. Ah well I guess atleast this aint happening when I am at boarding school because the doctor there has cold hands- and he thinks you are faking all the time even if you have a bone sticking out your arm or blood spraying every where.

Anyway other than the pain- and the inability to eat solid or hot food- oh and the worry about my GCSE results- I am having an amazing holiday!

Get Strepsils - helped me get through my tonsilitis quickly. Get the one with Antiseptic and anaestetics.. or something..

mmmm.... yeah Strepsils taste nice- should have asked the doc to subscribe me some- thanks very much for your advice. How long does tonsilitis normally last?

Strepsils are on general sale - buy yourself a pack from Superdrug or Boots.

My tonsilitis lasted about two weeks, but would've probably lasted longer if I wasn't taking the Strepsils. Make sure you get the Antiseptic and anaestetics one as that actually works to help you get better. Most of the stuff (Halls Soothers, Lockets, normal Strepsils, etc..) only works to soothe the pain but doesn't tackle the cause of it.

Yup they are on general sale but if you get free prescriptions the doctor will prescribe them for you- that way it dosen't cost you a penny. I know that because I worked in an RAF pharmacist for my work experince- well they call it the dispensary rather than the pharmacist but it is all the same. Anyway I would prefer to get them free- but I think under the circumstances I will go wild and buy them. Lol.. I feel a bit better now- though 2 weeks is a ****** long time.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen will certainly help with the pain. But you shouldn't be tasting the ibuprofen! The sugar coating is so it gets to your stomach without damaging anything, and it only dissolves when it gets there, by which time it's gone SPLASH in the food that you've eaten to buffer it.

(to everyone: you must have eaten in the last two hours before you take ibuprofen or diclofenac, or it may cause a stomach bleed. A glass of milk with a tablet will do nicely.)

Erythromycin and penicillin are both broad-spectrum antibiotics, so it's not surprising you feel awful. Take a Tesco probiotic capsule every morning, or eat lots of bio-yoghurt, and it'll sort that out no problem. Also erythromycin can make your stomach turn over and over, so I avoid it wherever possible.

The other thing is - if your pain isn't sorted by the tablets, dissolve a lot of salt in a glass of warm water and gargle it all. It's a great painkiller, and it'll help disinfect your throat too. Antiseptic mouthwashes and tea tree oil dripped sparingly into warm water will also help disinfect.

Penicillin(bacterizid) should be enough. Erythromycine actually counteracts (bakteriostatic depending on dose) Penicillin and mostly the bacteria involved get killed off fine with Penicillin.
Ibuprofen will give you a stomach problem in a short time, take with food is ok, but does not effectivly prevent stomach ulcers and gastritis. Don't take for more than 2 or 3 days and certainly not if you get queasy. Ask your doc about all this, not the internet.

you have my sympathy, tonsilitious dogged my late teens/early 20's. I had mine taken out 2 years ago, because it was ruining my quality of life. I dunno how i passed college, but i had it every month for at least a week at a time.

It might be worth trying to get them removed, they tend to take them out if youve had a really bad case or a constant string of them. Though you may be waiting up to a year for the op.
