Are you going to Westmister then?

you apply online.

Thanks, unfortunately I have to wait for my student number which comes with the Confirmation Letter that I am waiting to receive from Westminster before i can apply through their website.

Considering I never got any correspondence from Westminster I have no idea how long it will take them to mail me out a letter all the way out to Canada :s-smilie:

Hey, I was wondering, from what you guys have heard would you consider Westminster more Art based or math based? In Canada we have Schools of architecture that are *heavy* in maths (ie. McGill) and ones that are way more art based (ie. Carleton University, Ryerson, etc.).

Also, for those of you who went to the wmin open house what did you think of the studio space? Any of you take pictures? I really would have liked to see the building before firming my offer but that was impossible to do...

From what I understand Westminster seems to be more arty but Im not sure. Of course you could always direct your studies towards an engineering aspect of architecture if thats what you are interested in.

I was at the open day last month, for me I was very impressed, the location of the University blew me away. I didn't get to take any pictures although the studio space was fantastic. Very open and lots of white walls for presenting your work at crits. We were shown rooms full of computers including plotters printers etc. The staff seemed friendly and the atmosphere relaxed.

You may want to contact them to see if you can get your student ID number so you can apply for accommodation as soon as possible.
It may be late by now, however I do know that International students will be placed higher on the waiting list and there is always the inevitability that some students who have been granted accommodation will pull out due to not reaching the entry requirements for the course

I myself have been ale to secure accommodation at Alexander Fleming halls, it is a relief not to be worrying about where to sleep when the course starts

Looking forward to seeing ye all in September:cool:

Let me know if I missed someone or if someone shouldn't be in the list

Ring them asking for your student number. Look up the number for their admissions department on their website now and just ring to ask. Don't worry about being too late with accommodation yet, they apparently can fit 3/4 of first years (I read that somewhere), and considering you're international you're very likely to get a place in their halls. Even if you don't, there are options for private student accommodation available, but don't worry about that now.

I didn't get the impression that Westminster was heavily leaning to either Art or Maths when I visited, most schools in the country are fairly balanced here from what I've read (bar Bath maybe).
You do specialise later on though, so you can focus (or not) later on in the course, but don't arrive with the attitude that you're only strong at one thing. Practice over summer if necessary.

The studio space was good, but I wasn't blown away by it. I don't think you'd find any problems with it to be honest.

Add me to the list!
I've technically got a conditional, but I'm doing a foundation so it's a pretty easy condition to meet and so I'm fairly sure I'll see you there!

Really looking forward to meeting everyone, looks like there are loads of international students so it will be interesting.

It seems that the majority of people are coming from a foundation degree of sorts, yea? This is concerning me little - it's been a while since I did any form of taught art and even then it wasn't A level.

I am starting to wonder what I have got myself in for...

So, any reassurance/advice? Like maybe tell me that everyone will be as clueless as each other and everything's fine and dandy? Or be honest and point me in the direction of some good technical drawing classes..?

I told myself I would be good and organised this time around but it seems I am being anything but..

I wouldn't worry, I only did Foundation because I didn't do Art at A-level, I'm loving it though. You don't do technical drawing in foundation, for me it was to get an art and design portfolio good enough for unis, and to develop drawing and do other creative things.

I do think it's given me an advantage because I've done card sculpture and used laser cutting, etc. but I know some people here think it isn't really necessary. If you've done A-level Art I myself wouldn't recommend the foundation. If you haven't done A-level Art then spend summer practising sketching? I'm doing this anyway. I'm leaving the struggling at programs and learning how to do technical drawing until uni.

I also only did Foundation cos I hadn't done art at A-level, or GCSE even. So just did it to a build portfolio etc. Yea don't worry about technical drawing just practice sketching and communicating ideas visually and what not.

Just got my Accommodation sorted, Just need to pay the first installment now.
Anyone else going to Alexander Fleming halls?
I wonder what do we need to bring with us beds covers, kitchen utensils cutlery etc...?
Do we need to get that stuff ourselfs?
It says that theres a welcome pack when you arrive I wonder whats in that.
Ive heard of a company that sends the essentials you need in a pack for a reasonable price straight to the accommodation for you to save you from bringing all that crap
This is a handy website that I might use http://www.all-unied.com/

Does anyone know when we enroll?
The site says we get an e-mail when we can enroll online, I wonder when will this be?

Reply 78

Hi

I think that it will be at some point in August when they'd have sent us more info about it. Though I am phoning them up on Monday to ask and make sure that I am able to do it in time, as I will be away most of August.

I was wondering about this as well. Has anyone heard anything? I just received their official offer letter in the mail along with their brochure for the school.

Have any of you received any other news? (do you understand the registration process?)
