I did Maths, Busisnes Studies, Economics and ICT in the first year. Then because the maths department sucks, dropped that and took up double ICT instead. So in theory I did 6 subjects worth this year.

Looking back, I probably shouldnt have bothered doing the double award in a sinlge year, the grade never got submitted to my uni's thanks to Edexcel.

The standard thing in our school

was 4 AS levels then drop one in the second year and do 3 A2 and General Studies

    or

    3 AS + General studies........ 2 or 3 A2 + General Studies

but some people did 4 or 5 A2 levels in my school too....

I wonder the same thing, as unis only offer things like AAA anyway, they only expect three. Seems like a waste of time to me...

Most mid-range ones will take the value of those points over 21 units (3 1/2 A2's) FOr example my offer was BBC/280 points which is slightly less than BBC if you do an additional AS.
You also have the advantage that if something shafts up (like my ICT grades) theres the others to fall back on.
