Duke, living in another country can only be beneficial to your development?

If $$ isn't an issue, I'd say Duke all the way.
Warwick is the better of the two academically but I'd choose Duke as I'd prefer the location and chance to study in the US.
Obviously Duke.

My brother went to Duke on a soccer scholarship and had a blast. Academically it's not a first rate university and if you are a decent student you will be able to get a good degree with little effort. The courses over there are watered down by the requirement to take classes outside of your concentration but that's not a big deal unless you are planning to go onto graduate study in the UK.

Warwick is a more rigourous degree and is well respected by employers but it is (unfortunately) in a crappy location.

I'd choose Duke for the lifestyle and chance to live in the US for four years, but then I'm a lazy bastard who hates the UK.
warwick: why pay more per year and do a four year course to get the same qualification you would get in three years at Warwick?

It seems ridiculous in terms of finance when you include cost of flights etc even if you have a large bursary. Also one of my friends went to a top American university and hated it, at least if that happens here you can go home at the weekend.

Thanks for your post. Do you know anything about how many students proceed to grad school (especially to Harvard, Yale, Princeton etc) from Duke?

I don't sorry - I'll ask my brother - he's at Cornell now. The university should be able to provide you with this info too as they usually log graduate destinations.

Save the money and go to Warwick. At Warwick try to study as hard as you can so you will graduate with flying colors and then pursue grad and postgrad studies at a top US university for economics such as MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Berkeley, Chicago, Yale, and of course, Harvard. There are Warwick graduates doing grad and postgrad studies at those universities and many of them are doing extremely well academically. Alternatively, you can pursue MBA at any of the top 10 business schools world-wide.

Duke is a fine school. But I think it is overrated. Unless you want to work in the US, go for Duke. Otherwise, go for Warwick and save the money. Warwick is just as good as Duke in my opinion.
Duke. Seriously, this is the easiest question I have ever seen on here. Warwick just does not compare with Duke, at all. Duke is a top 10 university. I don't wanna say this next part, but I will just for argument's sake....Duke has great sports teams. I would venture to guess that student life at Duke is much, much better. Although, the city of Durham sucks. Other than that, though, Duke is miles ahead of Warwick.

how is Duke "miles ahead" of Warwick. and miles ahead in what?
been to duke; it looks nothing extraordinary compared to Warwick to me.

Miles ahead academically. As much as I hate Duke, it seems like TSR really underestimates how good Duke is.

Personally I'd pick Duke because living in America would be great.

The OP wants to major in economics. show me how is Duke academically superior to Warwick in economics.

I would agree that Duke, being in America, older and is richer, would be a more attractive school than would be Warwick. But in terms of academics, Warwick isn't that inferior to Duke, especially if where talking about economics, maths and business/management.

Duke is a consensus top 20 university for economics.

No one publishes rankings for undergrad econ rankings.

Look, I know you probably think I'm biased or whatever, but I would never in a million years go to Duke. I hate that school with a passion. However, for what the OP wants, Duke would probably be the better choice.

You have not gone to Duke; you don't like Duke and would probably not attend Duke if admitted. So, how did you know that Duke would be the better choice for him/her?

I don't mean to insult you, I think you’re a nice person with good intentions for posting on here, but if you can't pull out a source in a conversation like this, might as well don't say a declarative statement.

And Warwick is top 5 in the UK and amongst the top economics departments in Europe.
