My brother has worked there for a few years, while he's at uni. It's ok... the management aren't great, but he literally does no work - the entire store are ultra lazy, which suits him, as there's no real incentive to work hard, given the wages. The customers are real *****, I mean the stories he tells... unreal!

His hours seem to go up and down a lot. One week he'll be working every day, the next, just his basic hours. In contrast to Sakura's experience, my brothers store seem alright with letting him disappear off to America for a month at a time occasionally, so no real tightness with regards holidays. That's probably local management variance.

Probably no real help, but thought I'd tuppence.

Same as abouve, dont do it.

Worked for them for two years prior to going to uni and was ment to be getting a store transfer. Didnt happen cos my old manager didnt put the paper work through which is typical of Halfrauds.

If you still really want the job , be positive, talk about stuff you have done for friends on their cars, ie stereos. Also talk about customer services which they make out is a big thing. Also if you dont mind approching customers it helps.

There are icentives for selling ( spivs ) . I was in Charge of Ripspeed and could usually bring home £200 a month bonus through selling sat navs mainly. Make sure you keep a record of all your spivs though as I handed them in and they lost them and their was no record of them and it took a lot of argueing to get anything back.

You will only get taught the very bascis like how to use the till system. After 2 years there that was all I was taught even though I was fitting all of the top end stereos and hands free systems. This is why halfords has such an bad reputation and the people they have fitting keep damaging cars.

On a positive note you get a trade card and a staff discount card which gives you 15% which if you waite for the special offers means you can get some really good prices on tool kits and tool boxs.

I am not sure whether this guy is being sarcastic or not, but don't take his advice. It does not matter how many hours the job is for, you should always look smart and professional. Casual is not appropriate. (I would take his advice about wearing shoes however :p: )

You'll have to sign your contract, watch a load of videos about health and safety, employee theft etc and then fill in work books about them.

Do you know what department you're in?

You'll get shown around, shown how to work the tills and the parts look up system (which includes other stuff like h)ow to order things from other places like Andrew Pages), then you'll get a basic talk about things like sat nav, in car tech etc.

If you're on the cycle department, you'll get shown how to fill in PDI forms for bikes (Pre Delivery Inspection) and all the basic things you need to know.

^^ Hey first things first don't go...Anyways...The questions are pretty simple...

the questions that they asked where pretty much not the ones people told me about.
The questions were.

1) Why do you wanna work for Halfords?
2) When was a time that you received good customer feedback and why?
3) When was a time you received bad customer feedback and why?
4) When have you had to go out of your way to do something and how was it out of your way?
5) What has been your proudest moment?
6) Sell me this pen
7) "If I said what's the different between a feature and benefits, could you tell me what this pen has?"

Good luck there...your need it!

Is it alright to wear casual clothes (jeans, trainers) on this induction or should I wear black trousers and shoes?

No. If I were you, I'd go in black trousers, black shoes and a black t-shirt. If they want you to go on the shop floor, at least you'll blend in with the rest of the staff that way.

When I went to the induction thing I got given my uniform.

Thanks for your advice. I'll have to quickly go and buy these clothes now.
