hi it may seem like i dont know much but in respiration does NAD and FAD pick up electrons or hydrogens? i know they become reduced when they pick them up.

hey Emmz,

NAD and FAD pick up hydrogen, and as you say, are reduced.

Hydrogen carriers are also known as electron carriers, e.g. FAD, NAD, NADP, because electrons are transferred to them and the hydrogen...You've heard of the electron transport chain, right? Well this chain flows the electrons to oxygen, which allows ATP to form from ADP +Pi.

e.g. NAD+ (+) 2H+ (+) 2e- --> NADH + H+

The electrons are from the hydrogens - 2 electrons.

I think you do need to know the formulas, to talk about the reduction and oxidation in the chain. A diagram would be ok too though.
