heh. I was joking. They do look odd, though. And the difference between caps and mortar boards is that you can wear caps before you graduate. You can't wear boards.
i think our finals are off in summertown.. after 2 sets of being spoiled by exams in Schools, i'm not thrilled about this prospect & strongly considering walking in trainers & changing into heels!
my carnation mantainance potentially reaches obsessive levels though! my 'husband', bless him, isn't the most organised of people - so although he always buys me some - tends not to know exactly when the exams are, so i get them ~1-2 weeks in advance. & it then becomes a regime of plant food, fresh water daily, careful positioning in optimal sunlight position, gradual trimming of stem to optimise xylem & phloem contacts..
Why? They're just about the most useless pieces of kit in the world outside Oxford. If I were a fresher again, I probably wouldn't buy one at all, but wait till I came up, find someone who got a distinction in their first year exams and buy/borrow theirs for matriculation. As scholars, they'll get fancy scholar's gowns and won't need their commoner's one.
Hmm. I assume you got a distinction. Should that be interpreted as an open offer?
If you do get a distinction do you have to get a scholar's gown, or can you just carry on using your old one? Do you have to be officially told you're entitled to one or what?
