You can't use the logarithm thingmajig because it's not in the form f(x)f(x)\dfrac{f'(x)}{f(x)}. However, rr is 1/8 times the derivative of 1+4r21 + 4r^2, and so the substitution u=1+4r2u = 1+4r^2 will do the trick.
