Changing Pills - Bad for your body?

Is it bad for your body if you change the contraceptive Pill often enough? I went on Microgynon 30 in April and came off that in June because of migraines. I then went on Neogest and came off that because of pains I was having (and still am having). I'm now on Cerazette and have been for just over three weeks now, but because these pains still happen I'm having a phone appointment on Monday and possibly a face-to-face appointment within the next week. I have a feeling the doctor's going to put me on another Pill (though he shouldn't do, the pains happened before I went on Cerazette).

My mum and nan are both worried that chopping and changing the Pill often enough can be harmful, so...can it?
Hi!

Just my opinion from my own experience :p:

The only time this will be a problem is if you have a reaction to the Pills you're taking. It sounds like you've had a few problems so far. This should all stop when you find a Pill that suits you.

The Pills you've tried seem quite heave duty. Have you thought of a mini pill like Dianette or Jasmin? They seem to cause less reaction in most people.

Good luck finding a Pill that suits you!

Erm.... Dianette and Yasmin are both combined pills.
She is actually on a mini pill at the moment (Cerazette).

And Hannah, i really dont htihnk it can be that harmful. They actually advise to keep changing until you find one that suits. Good luck. xx

Pardon me for having a dense moment  I meant combined. I know, I know - I'll never make a doctor! They do recommend that you keep changing until you find a Pill that suits you, so if mini Pills don't work maybe combined will. Worked for my sister. Most people I know on the Pill have gone for the combined - it's just down to personal choice (and reaction to the Pills) at the end of the day.

I wouldn't worry about changing though, but just remember sex ed "use extra protection when in between or changing Pills" just to be on the safe side

I agree with everyone here, changing pills shouldn't be a problem, and once you do find one you like you'll probably stick with it for years, so its a hassle now but will pay off! I was on Yasmin (I suppose it must be called Jasmin in the UK), and I had bad migranes on it, but it is supposed to be one of the better ones in that respect.

Also, you should talk to your doctor about trying some non-pill methods. I used "nuva ring" for a while, it is just a piece of plastic you position inside you, and because it releases only localized hormones it is supposed to cause fewer side-effects. You can also take it out when you are not sexually active to further reduce problems (I think you have to have it in you for 12 hours before and 12 hours after sex, I don't remember now, I left it in all the time because I wasn't bothered by it). I've been on tons of things as well, including the depo shot (which I loved), and now the IUS which is perhaps the best thing ever invented, possibly better than running water. It was one of the more painful experiences of my life having it inserted, but a few days of pain once every five years, really can't complain. Anyway, the long and short of it is that you just have to keep trying to find whats right for you, there are so many options, it is a trial and error process, but once you get it right its a huge relief.

Also, you might consider going to a family planning clinic instead of your GP. I've always found the nurses at the clinics to be far more knowledgeable - after all, birth control is all they do!

I'll let you off!
The pill Hannah originally tried, Microgynon, is a combined pill, which she came off for migraines. hence her now being on the mini pill. Most people start with the combined pill and if they have oestrogenic side effects, change to the mini pill. Rarely will people start on the mini pill and then change to the combined pill.
Also, mini pills generally produce less side effects than the combined ones!
Yeah I'm quite limited with the Pill options *grins* - can't go on any combined Pills because of the oestrogen, so I'm stuck with any of the mini-Pills. Some doctor told me that if I had another migraine I could end up with bleeding on the brain, so he took me straight off it lol.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty sure it's just my grandmother and mum worrying unnecessarily as usual. Mum seems to think I'll be forever infertile if I come off the Pill after chopping and changing "so much" (when, in reality, in the past few months a lot more girls have changed even more than I have) lol.

The pains - Doctor told me to leave it for 2 weeks and if they continue with the same/worse intensity, come in.
