Are you not studying for your AS/A2 exams at the moment? Before even starting to prepare for the BMAT, I would advise you to have solid grades at the time of applying.

I personally think it's too early to start prepping for the BMAT. It's a really tough exam though, so I can see why you're worried. However, like ultramarine has said, you need to get approximately half the questions right for a good score. I would advise you to find a copy of the Kaplan book, it's huge and is very helpful. Though, it is out of print, so locating one is rather hard.

Hope you do well in your exams and the BMAT! =]

Is this the Kaplan book?

The BMAT is tough, but then again it's meant to stretch some of the brightest people around. Getting a low percentage (something like 60%?) gets you a good score. You can prepare and books like the Kaplan one are good, but far too detailed for S2.

Look at the thinking skills section which is on the right hand side halfway down the page. These will help alot with the non science section.

With tests like these it's all about practice, so it's good that your starting early. Try and get as much practice as you can so you can give it your best shot.

I hope to do it, but even the that thought scares me.

I was wondering if I could get some advice
I'm a prospective medical student living in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and I have no idea how to sign up for the BMAT. I'm looking for a test centre nearby, but unlike the UKCAT, I can't seem to be able to sign up simply by visiting a website. I've contacted the British Council and have been told that I needed to ask specific universities that I want to apply to (which require the BMAT, of course) where in the region I could take the exam. Unfortunately my school isn't a testing centre so everything just got more difficult. :woo:
Advice anyone?
Be very persistent with you British council. Mine played dumb at first as well and it took a number of e-mails expressing my "bewilderment" at why they're unable to provide the test this year, even though they're on the list and the BMAT support team says there shouldn't be a problem.

Here's the list of registered centres. If they don't want to register you e-mail the BMAT support team - see link: http://www.admissionstests.cambridgeassessment.org.uk/adt/bmat/registration

Oh yeah be prepared to be charged for all kinds of crap. My bill was €188.

As an international applicant I haven't followed the English curriculum and I would like to revise some of the material that will be tested on the Section 2 of BMAT.
Would the following books suffice for that purpose?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oxford-GCSE-Maths-Higher-Student/dp/0199139288
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chemistry-Student-Book-CD-ROM-Level/dp/0435691813

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Biology-Student-Book-Exam-CD-ROM/dp/0435691805

Thanks in advance!
I got ~6 in section 2 and I used a basic combined science GCSE book. That big fat CGP one. Buy the cheapest.

I am aiming for the highest possible mark I can get and since I have some free time I would like to do a study the material thoroughly
I think just buy some BMAT practice questions books, and think about GCSE science in a more analytical way e.g. prioritise understanding how things work, patterns rather than learning facts.

I have the BMAT prep books, the official one and some others but I would also like to revise the material. The problem is that I have done a completely different curriculum in high school and I want to make sure I know all the facts that might be asked. What troubles me is the different modules and the levels and all these you have and I am not sure if the books above do cover everything.

Don't bother buying all those books. Go on the BMAT website. it suggests all the material that could help. it says "Additional Science and Maths National Curriculum for Key Stage 4 would be suitable for BMAT preparation".

Heres the link:

I've seen the site and I thought they require all the GCSE curriculum. Damn, I am so frustrated with your system. What does Key Stage 4 mean? Could anyone tell me 2-3 books that completely cover the full material needed? I would be indebted!
I don't think it's wise to buy AS level books as they won't cover the same things as is in the GCSE curriculum. I didn't do GCSEs either and didn't do Biology at the IB so I got the recommended GCSE biology book mentioned on their site (green mackean book). It covered just the right things.

Here are some books that might be useful but you'll want the additional science one. Tese books are well known in the uk, and can be very useful however, the questions on the bmat are all at A* grade which is the highest grade that can be achieved at Key stage 4:

science:

Maths:

I'm sure you can find them on amazon or ebay at a cheaper price.

Thanks again for your help. The more I delve into the UK educational system, the more confused I get :frown: Am I stupid or what?
Why are there so many sciences (additional, core, extension, double award, applied...) What the heck are these? Which one(s) should I chose?
And in maths.....Core 1, Core 2.... Whats the difference? I need some books that cover the full material tested in BMAT. Is that hard??? :dontknow:

Could somebody please help me with this? I am looking for some books and I can't find advice anywhere...

The uk education system is insanely confusing but hopefully the below will have answered your questions.:yep:

Oh by the way I accidently gave you the wrong link for maths.

Here is the correct link. FYI get the LINEAR maths book NOT modular:

http://www.cgpbooks.co.uk/pages/books_gcse_maths.asp

As for science you only need the Additional science book IGNORE ALL THE OTHERS.

I strongly recommend you buy the BMAT book which is the only book thats considered excellent for the bmat. Type up PREPARING FOR BMAT BOOK in google and you should get it. To be honest, you'll find this more useful than anything.

Good luck

The Scottish system is easier to understand and more user friendly. Please do not tar us all with the same brush
