How would you react if...

How would you react if one of your mates continually mocked people with mental illnesses. It came to a head at the pub tonight and I had a go at him. He continually makes the "yeah 'no" phrase (the one that Andy from Little Britain makes). Its not even funny (especially after you've heard it on a weekly basis). The fact that annoys me is that he didn't give a sh*t when I told him. What would you do. Have you come across this?

If you say out loud in front of him and his mates ''thats not funny'' people may side with you and the messege will get across better.

if that doesnt work, just ignore him; as in blank him completely when he does it.

did u shout at him? if so y not try having a civilised convo with him, exp[alining the fact that what he says makes you feel uncomfotable and that on eday he cpuld seriously offend some1 and end up in trouble!!!!
if you talk rather than argue he'll probably take more notice!

Failing that i agree with tishysquishy...ignore him. he may then realise how immature hes being

I didnt argue with the kid. I said "You're out of order grow up, there's no need." He didnt give a ****

Reply 4

hmmmmm he sounds like a bit of a **** no offence, obviously u can rise above it so just ignore him and think to urself tht most ppl who can hear him will also think hes a ****

xxxxxx

i didn't know it was takin the mic out of mental illness, I thought it was just some random thing ppl say... Can somebody elaborate on this?

Reply 6

I have a 'mental health problem' and I take the p**s out of myself so I couldn't give a toss really.

Reply 7

I would disassociate myself with such a prejudiced, judgemental dickface.

Reply 8

No. He was actually imitating disabled people; gestures, noises, the lot. This was because there is such a person who is a regular at this pub. Sorry if I didn't get that across. I personally think its wrong regardless of what BellaCat says

Thank you lessthanthree (for that other episode) and everyone else on this issue

i wud have got mad. prob caught him by his collar in front of everyone and told him....either u grow up and learn to show respect for people who arent as fortunate as you are or i make u less fortunate than they are.

its wud be the last resort.

Give him the civilised talk and then if he still keeps up his bigotry tell him to shove off! I would!

If he's just copying Little Britain then that's a good thing. Perhaps you need to explain that Andy isn't actually disabled, they're taking the piss out of scousers saying they're all thick and on benefits. Then tell him he does a great impression of one... I'd personally tell him to f*ck right off, because I used to work with disabled people and they're no different to normal people, they just have problems communicating or whatever.

Reply 15

As much as Little Britain is funny, I can't stand those two characters.

I would tell him to shut up.

But then I'm like that with friends :p:

Repeating something out of a television comedy programme is completely unoriginal and actually rather embarrassing for anyone who's listening. He needs to learn that.

As for the mental health thing - who cares? Sometimes it's funny. Like that episode of Family Guy that mocked the disabled olympics - I don't really see a problem with that sort of thing.

Hmmm, guys at my school seem to think it's cool to go "SPACKA" everytime someone does something stupid, which I personally think is tasteless but I don't have too much to do with them.

tell him you don't like him and that no one does. It may give him something to think about in his spare time.........
