For all of you taking Chemistry SL, what are your options? I'm only in first year, but we're deciding our options topics for next year. Our class is definately doing Environmental Chemistry, but for the second option our choices are: Higher Physical Organic Chemistry, Human Biochemistry, or Fuels and Energy. All seem relatively easy, but does anyone have any suggestions?

I am 2nd year Chemistry HL, and I personally don't recommend Organic or Biochemistry. Those have been definitely the topics I have most struggled in, but then again, that doesn't by any means imply that it'll be the case for you

Basically, if you don't enjoy memorising a lot of stuff, avoid organic or biochemistry (if possible)

It depend how long the IB has been running.

My school currently has only 20 students (1&2) for IB and hopefully for me next year this will stay the same! I'm really looking forward to the small classes-esp. for maths higher- only 2 people in 1 class for yr 13. If it was AS or A2 the school wouldnt b able to run a subject if only 5 or less wanted to do it but with the IB they get extra funding-I might b the only one doing german next year -but that means I won't b able to sleep in lessons-damn!

Ummm, right I've got a question about the Extended Essay. I've got to write my introduction and my teacher says you should add the reason why you chose that spcific topic. After that, she showed me a sample where the student literally wrote "I was interested in this topic because" and another one with "this topic appealed to me because", I thought both were rather childish and didn't really think you were supposed to include yourself so directly in your essay. Then she said that both essays had gotten top marks. I wrote something a little more impersonal/formal... but now I'm not sure if I should've done it the other way, she hasn't given me feedback yet. What did most of you do? Did you make it more impersonal or did you actually include 'I' in your essays?

You should justify why the topic you have chosen is worth studying. Not necessarily why you have chosen the topic.

Including 'I' in an arts/literature essay would probably be acceptable (although not necessary). In a maths/science essay it would be just awkward.

I'm doing it for History and have handed in my introduction, I'll see what she thinks of it... it's kind of a random topic though, I'm not much into factual history so I picked a very subjective theme which makes it hard to explain why exactly it's so interesting since I can't give actual evidence that it influenced the future or something of the sort...
