Just a week to get used to the university, make friends stop you getting lost and stuff, introduce you to the societies you can join etc... however supposivly it's just an excuse to go down the pub all week!

yes aber does have one. if you drink make sure you budget a £100 or so for it - shouldn't need more as the offers are so good but you are going to get wasted. Be sensible though I know so many people who had their stomachs pumped in my freshers week and I imagine its not a nice experience.

They used to do really nice tours of town on freshers theres some organised pub events and in the first couple of weeks your department should have a social so you get to know your course people and friendly staff.
abers freshers week is infact more like a weekend! first years go on the 24th and then term starts on the 26/27th which is a bit poo! most of my mates who are off to chester/nottingham/manchester/Durham/cambridge/leeds (think uve got the idea) are having between 7 - 10 days!

Generally, isn't the firt week of term just general enrollment related things? I doubt you'll be expected to go to lectures!

Yeah you end up doing freshers stuff for about a week and a half or did when I was there.

You have a introduction weekend which you don't have to go to (I am), then you have freshers week by the looks of things.

I'm going back on the monday (26th) which is when the 2nd/3rd (like me) yrs can get in to uni accom. You'll find that most of those in private accom will already be there. I hope you'll like Aber, it's a friendly place, and no doubt you'll see me around as I work in the Union.

Just got a letter from aber saying it's a freshers weekend...

£100 might be a bit too much for the Freshers weekend. I know I didn't spend that much. There's usually loads of promos both at the Union and in town. Just remember to stay WELL clear of the cheap Vodka in The Bay. Its rubbish. Plus be prepared to stick to the floor in Pier Pressure. Oh the memories.

Ive put around £120 ish aside for it. Im going on holiday with my boyfriend next week so will try not to spend it lol!
Im really looking forward to it, having a dance and getting to meet lots of new ppl hehe

What do you reckon my chances are of getting a job doing some bar work at the union? I live in Aber, so do you think if I turned up on the first Fri and enquired they may have some vacancies?

Thanks.

You could give it a try, but they tend to advertise vacancies on the union website at certain times. They recruited a number of people across all departments for this coming academic year around easter so that they are trained in time for the beginning of the year.
