Quality of Teaching/Education in Bristol & Durham

Hi all,

I'm an international student and I've been given offers by both Bristol and Durham to read law. Currently, I'm kinda torn in deciding which uni to firm. Due to the circumstances I am currently in, it is extremely difficult to go to UK to take a look at both uni to decide which is the better one for me.

That being so, one factor that I am looking at to help in decision making is the quality of teaching/education in both schools. If I am to solely decide on either university based on the quality of teaching/education offered, may I know which is the better choice?

Thanks!

I would probably say Durham, but they are VERY close, so its probably not the best thing to base your answer on. It would probably be better to choose the one you would feel better at, as the academic difference are quite small.

until i came on TSR, i didn't actually realise bristol was thought of as a 'good' university . I'd say Durham beats bristol in terms of reputation and tranquility. As far as teaching quality goes i'd guess they're both in a similar league, but don't just take my word for it.

They're both excellent, top 10 universities, and to be honest you'll struggle to choose between them based on teaching quality. According to the Times, Bristol betters Durham in terms of the student: staff ratio, amount spent on services/facilities and has better graduate prospects (both overall and for your subject), but Durham is ranked two places higher for Law and has better research. According to the Guardian, Bristol has a higher % of people satisfied with teaching score and again has better graduate prospects, but Durham is ranked slightly better for Law.

Have you looked at the courses and modules offered at both? Because even though they're more or less equal in terms of teaching quality, you may well find one course interests you more than the other.
