I'm going to apply for English Literature and History, and just wondered if any of you have any inspiring ideas for a Personal Statement. I want to emphasise how the two subjects interact with one another, and how they link, yet am struggling to think of anything different or exciting. I've got some ideas for History, and some key concepts that I will stress, but I'm struggling quite a lot with Literature, and combining the two. Any ideas would be great! Thanks

Through literature you can further understand and highlight your historical knowledge?
Through studying literature with a historical perspective you can see the changes throughout long periods of time and the similarities which have remained, and understand these changes in relation to the historical events which were happening at the time?

Just some suggestions.. dunno if they're any good

Ive applied to do this course as well. Personally for me Ive always loved the connection between english lit. and history interesting. like i love how historical contexts influence novels/prose etc. In my personal statement i used the example of star of the sea - because it realtes to irish history. And i said that such books gave a personal and creative insight into historical events and thus create empathy. I did have a kick ass personal statement and it got me in2 some good unis despite my predicted grades so if you need any help...just ask
