Umm well it's not lab based but you could try working as a health care assistant in a hospital, cos I think you get to learn about lots of the drugs and stuff (apart from caring for patients) and you don't need qualifications. You could try contacting unis to see if you could do work experience with a lab but I don't think you could get paid work unfortunately :frown:

A Lab assistant? Try your local connexions site they should have work placements on there, or try www.sciencejobs.com (i dont know what the site is like i just saw the url somewhere)

Try local schools/colleges, maybe they could do with some help?

'year in industry'? you'd probably need to get moving on that though, i think they're quite competitive.

& not sure whether they do lab ones specifically, but i had a friend who had a placement at quinetic (however you spell it - the MOD/military technology development place). very well paid & lots of people doing similar things, so they'd go on paid trips & team building type things throughout the country etc.

http://www.yini.org.uk/ found the website - it's 'engineering' per se, but you might find biotech type ones. & they're still taking applications.

Southampton, Hampshire Student with good scientific ability required. Work involves data management as well as laboratory duties.

promising looking vacancy?

& yes, you can get them.. have seen some ads online during my temp hunt - alas no idea where..
you could just apply directly to hospital type labs?
will do some digging!

Thanks guys for all your help. I think I'm going to pop along to my local connexions to see if I can get some advice & be put on their database in case any jobs in my area come up. I've checked the NHS website, but there are no suitable jobs available in my local NHS trusts. However, I know that they don't always display jobs when they have them for some reason, so as I'm on bank as a cleaner at my local hospital, I might see if they have anything in the path labs down there where I did some work experience.

I need the job to save up for my gap year travels, so at the end of the day I'll probs end up with a job down my local ASDA, but I thought it'd be a nice idea to see if I could get something science-related.

Elles - Thanks for your help. The thing is, I was only looking to work for 6 months as I would like to do some travelling, so I wouldn't really be up for a whole year. Cheers for suggesting it, though.
