Language oral - re-mark/re-take?

Anyone else had language oral problems? My other two Spanish units were As, but my oral was a B. The total was 6 marks off an A and I'm wondering if anyone knows about re-marking - can a grade conceivably be raised that much or is it not worth the bother? I was annoyed because the other two units went so well, it was just the oral. Had to do the oral twice because my teacher only recorded for 7 minutes the first time (instead of 12) and that messed things up, but I still didn't think it had gone that badly. Anyone else in the same boat?

I am in a similar boat to you, with my French oral. However, I am many more marks off an A than you are! I ended up with a middle B for my oral, and thought it was by far my best paper and would be nearly full marks. It must depend a lot on the examiner, as they are so individual and must be extremely difficult to mark.

I am thinking less of moving up a grade but more for the points of next year. Talk to your teacher, and see what he/she recommends.

Best of luck!

I retook my oral and perfomed 1000000x better than in the original and got a lower mark for it :frown: I wouldn't like you to put a lot of effort like me and then come out with nothing.

Exactly the same. Apart from I only did my oral once! I got two high As though so I still got an A overall but my oral is a lot lower than the mark I got for my March mock. I did Edexcel, how about you?

Edexcel as well. It seems everyone's got lower oral marks than they expected. Well done for the A though!

Hmm I didn't really like doing the oral the first time around so maybe you're right...I don't even like Spanish!

Are you getting a remark? I can't decide whether to bother or not. I need the A to get into uni!

I did AQA Spanish A/S last year and in my oral got an E (the woman did not like me for some reason - she was English), this brought my whole grade down to a C (All my other units were A's - I was devestated).

Then this year I took the A/S oral again and got a high A at A/S (with native Spanish examiner) and a high B at A2, I really think it depends on the examiner....

Overall I got a high A at A2 level Spanish

Do resit, it makes things easier!
I did it with a native Spanish speaker - unfortunately I don't think she really understood how to get the most out of people and I'm not too sure she understood the word 'unpredictable' which is important for asking unpredictable questions!!

I thought my resit went awful (came out crying) as the woman looked really bored and asked me the same question twice at one point! Then at the end she said "Nice to meet you, have a good sleep tonight I think you need it" I think maybe this is because I hadn't slept the night before and was REALLY nervous!!!!

When I found out I got an A I couldn't believe it!!! I really believe going to visit Barcelona a few months before my oral gave me lots of confidence.

I'm going to Barcelona AFTER my oral...don't think this will help much though!

It will help for your A2 oral or if you were to decide to resit! Also, go on loads of Spanish websites where you can watch the Spanish news etc or EuroNews on Sky TV.
I'm 1 mark off an A in French. Am not getting a remark in case it goes down; instead, am retaking 1 paper that I know I can easily pull up. Unless your As were high As I'd recommend retaking a paper rather than oral; orals are nightmares to retake if you have to do them at same time as A2 oral

I retook my oral at the same time as A2 and it was quite stressful (if you can do it in jan).

I would strongly advise all language students to retake the modules that let them down in AS, or even ones that they were satisfied with but they think they could improve. I did french and at AS and we were all encouraged to resit modules in the january of year 13 as it has a very high sucess rate. The reason for this is that in languages, you learn progressively so resits are often very little work and you will effectively be sitting an AS exam with A level knowledge. Everyone on my class who resat went up by at least 2 grades.

As people have mentioned though - Orals are scary and horrible and to be avoided whenever possible! The teachers at my school encouraged us to resit the written exams instead as they're less stressful. Retakes of orals at my school also had a good sucess rate though - one of my friends moved up from a D to a B. Good luck. x

And I bet the fact that they're less work for the teachers has something to do with it too lol  Nah, seriously, I agree about them being scary and horrible!
I got a C for AS German but I DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!! hehe- 'cos everyone else got U's. So I did comparatively well.

This was a pointless post really.

Hmm I scraped a B for my French oral and got an A overall, but I think I might retake the oral so I can get as many marks under my belt for A2. I think I'll need those extra points (if I can get them that is).
