I think you just get a shower and no bath. Frances gardner is a bit more expensive so surely there will be a microwave for people there. I can't really cook and if there are no microwaves im gonna be kinda screwed lol.

As for single sex apartments, i'm not sure. I really don't think it will be from the pics i've seen. There were blokes and girls hanging about in the kitchen.

cool. i'm good either way (showers and the mixed sex thing). it'll just be another surprise for when i get there!! i thought it was silly about the micro waves but in the 'student residences general regulations' it says...

'if you bring toasters...microwaves etc.,they should only be used in the kitchen'

why would anyone bring one if they are already there?

it was just a shower...but its decent... i went with a female friend n she goes that she didnt like the showers because it was stuck or something...(apparantly its not good for girls because it means they have to wash their hair every time they go in the shower)...

didnt notice a microwave anywhere...

well your friend is right, thats a bit of a bummer! o well, i'll cope! do you know how many share a kitchen? when do we find out who's in who's flat? any idea? 1 month to go!!!!!!!
I think they will have microwaves as standard...

Check this out for more info of the rooms. If you put your mouse over the logo (signs) it will tell u wot they mean..
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/residences/halls/self-catered/john-dodgson/index.shtml

Ensuite facilities in all rooms; Hairdryer available; Bed linen provided;Towels provided; Payphone onsite; TV Lounge; Laundry facilities on site; Microwave in kitchens; Equipped kitchens for guest use; Fridge/Freezer in kitchens ; Lifts available; Discounted UCL Union gym rate available (which i think is like £120 per year ); No smoking in rooms permitted: Rooms serviced weekly..

I think some of them apply for summer students only, like bed linen provided (we have to pay for it), probably same with hairdryer. Dont think our rooms will be serviced weekly.

I might go check the accomodation out on wednesday/thurseday, with some friends.. One of my friends got en-suite offer from Imperial, so ill be able to compare.. (Hopefully ours is beta )... Ill take some pics of the room for u somersetgirl

They do have an "arrive earlier" form, but that might be for one week prior to the date they've set (24/25th September); but if you can give a good enough reason, im sure if they can accomodate you earlier, they will.

No Way! (Although i havent really thought about it much)

I've been a spoilt brat over the years, so i haven't ever done many chores. Only hoovered the house a couple of times, whilst my mum was ill, and my sista was abroad.. Never done any washing up, laundry!! Im a rookie when it comes to that... But will have to learn fasssssst!!

I've just started thinking of getting some cutlery/dishes/pots/pans; i hope they give us some individual space (cupboard) in the kitchen to put all those in!!

Gosh - we'll have to take "Fairy" liquid, to wash up the dishes etc! Argh - i might just take plastic plates - eat off them and throw them away!

Not yet but some others have. I'm gonna leave it till next week because i don't want them to say "we having allocated yet, so ring back next week".
Just called John Dodgeson house and i asked some women whether or not i would be able to check out the place beforehand, told i had recieved an offer of accomodation ucl etc, and she said unfortunately this is not possible.

ye thats what she said to me too...ws quite rude actually but i didnt really care so i went anyway (last week thursday) and when someone went in, i kindly explained the situation and they were more than happy to show me their room...
another thing is i rang up the woman at JD House and she goes not allowed to bring in a fridge in your room...sucks!
I get a feeling the admin there are gonna be stricti ones. There probably gonna check at night to make sure no1 is staying over from outside the house without permission, check that you bring certificates by electrical engineers to certifiy your electrical goods.

Hope Not! I have lots of friends who intend to stay the night after a late one in the city, or over xmas for 2-3 days...

yeah i'm gona wait til nxt week before i ring too. or i'll email them. wow, we might even be living together by the end of this month - crazy!

i hope they wont check, that would be so annoying!all my friends wanna visit cuz i'm in london plus my boyfriend wil be staying every other weekend!

do we need certificates for everything? like; tv, stereo, dvd player?
