Your in Room 11 arent ya? Not too far then. Has anyone else seen this thread:

"Announcement: Freshers: Richard and Judy need you!

Cactus TV are looking for a bunch of Freshers to give video cameras and have them film their experiences of Freshers' Week 2005 for a special video-diary feature in their new series. If you're planning on coming to Royal Holloway this September, or know someone else who is, the show would love for you to get involved.

------------

The Richard & Judy Show is looking for a selection of students who would be willing to share their experiences of Freshers week using a video-diary. We would ask you to film your thoughts each day about who you’ve met, what you’ve done and how you’re feeling about this new adventure.

We are looking for students who will be studying at universities across the country and who have a range of interests. If you want to get involved please email Polly Galpin on [email protected] or call on 020 70914900."

Anyone else thinking this could be cool!!??

Yeh, I applied for the Richard and Judy thing.

IS is just me or do the Williamson Room Numbers seem really random? They all have different letters in front of the numbers.

Yeah I thought that too. I know it has four floors ie. ground floor is numbers beginning with 0, first floor numbers beginning with 1 etc. on that theory I am on the third (and top) floor, as my room number is 312. Bit confusing really, but I also know the floors alternate between boys and girls, but Cartouche, didn't you say you were on the ground floor? And so are Phil and Mario? Oh dear, my mind is melting...

I think you're right. I am probably on the ground floor.

I too am excited about Williamson. It seems a really social hall. No worries about not having the net, cos there is loads of other things to do, and computers nearby if absolutely necessary. From what current and past students have said Williamson is a great halls for socialising.

Hi Lara,

Scary degree you have there - certainly not my area of expertise . I believe we are supposed to move in on the 24th. Here's an event programme...

Aye, well, to set things straight, it's not specifically the internet that I'll miss, but the people I know through it (I seriously overuse Livejournal). I wouldn't want to be online 24/7, as only a few hours a day would suffice, but even that appointment isn't possible under college supervision.

The only way round that would be for us to set up a LAN for Williamson, which I believe someone has done before, although the reception wasn't brilliant, and he did charge £7 a month to those 10 or 11 who used it (which I'd be perfectly willing to pay, of course). Is there anyone here who could do that? Not swapping would be easier than swapping, and I do know you people already, but having absolutely no internet is a very major negative point to me...

...do I still sound like a shallow, reclusive individual?

Erm...it IS possible to use the internet on the university computer facilities, you know... I managed perfectly well without a personal computer when I was in Halls (Reid, if you want to know). Most of the time you're never very far from a computer room on-campus, after all.

Aye, well, they did tell me that there was no computer room at Williamson. Also, what would you do with personal files such as mp3s and pictures?

...I thought Reid was networked?

I've got a funny feeling that you guys might understand me when i say that the internet is very distracting! I reckon itll be less tempting to chat to people on MSN etc. and look at different sties and to do work if theres NO NET!

I almost suffered from that problem in duing my alevels!!
Reply 37
Aye, but with no net, you can't talk to people on MSN full stop. I find the internet really useful for my work, so it's not exactly a hinderance even if it can be a distraction.

Reid was networked about halfway through the academic year we've just had. I've never really felt a need for a personal computer, to be honest - I can manage perfectly well with the university computer facilities, because I only ever use them for writing essays and going on the internet. For MSN I have to use MSN web messenger which can be a little bit dodgy, but apart from that I get by.

I don't *think* any Halls have their own computer room (except for possibly Founder's) - but there's the Computer Centre, as well as various computer rooms dotted around.
I was just checking out the other threads and found this:

"A while back a girl sitting her exams next to the polar bear painting (in the Picture Gallery) strsed out and depressed that she got two pencils and shoved them up her nostrils resulting in her suicide. She left a note saying 'The bears made me do it'.

Now to this day the painting is always covered because anyone who sits next to it without it being covered is cursed.

Other RHUL ghost stroies;

Apparently the ghost of Jane Holloway wonders the 4th floor of founders.

The top floor of Williamson is haunted by the ghost of a student who commited suicide there.

A black cat apparently wonders the area of the now disused Athlone building. App the spirit of Thomas Holloway resides in this cat."

So our halls are haunted!! Woooooo.....
