Benching question

Does it make a difference to how far along the weights are on each side to how heavy it feels? Cos i was doing 61kg all spaced along in 5s and 2.5s and i was getting used to it so i bought some tens, so instead of doing 61, im doing 66 now but it feels easier / the same, is this due to the weights being closer to the middle?

66kg=

----@@@=--------=@@@=---- where @ =10KG

61=

&&&&&&&&=-------=&&&&&&&&& where & = 5s, 2.5s and 1.25s

Does it have something to do with moments and how close the weight is to the point of the lift to effect how heavy it feels? Just wondering if someone could help me out :smile:

Dunno, moral of the story - don't load the bar with 5's and 2.5s.

no, moments do not apply as the bar is balanced. there should be no difference.

I find it makes a slight differenc e- which is the reason when in competitions - we use 50kg weights where appropriate - or in fact are u sure ur weights r weights correctly - ive seen it many times b4 a weight claims 2 be 20kg - but it weighs about 18.75 kg etc. What brand r ur plates?

Golds gym? if so, they should be good. Tbh, i dont thin it will make any difference what plates you have on, as long as they all work out equal. Also, dont mix and match between each side,e.g. golds gym on one and york on other, even if they say the same weight. There will be small differences

Are u using an olympic bar - if so the only time that would really make a differnce is wen ur stackign the weight on - when im going heavy (180kg +) I prefer to use 50kg plates - but that could just b old habit.

However I have benched at ppls houses where they have their own equipment and the bars r much shorter and lighter and I definately think it makes a difference cuz I can never bench as much in a house or garden as I do in a gym - I would say I'm 10 - 15kg weaker training on anything but an olympic bar with correct plates.

At the end of the day do what makes u feel comfortable, every 1 is different - I know ppl who cant bench as much at certain gym cuz the bench is narrower or wider - personally this doesn't bother me at all - like I say personal preference.
