Wezza does (but she doesn't go on this much)
I go to the girls high and a lot of people I know go there - what do you want to know about it?

Do you know anyone who got into the Grammar after being on the waiting list? If so, what grades did they get?

Have a look through my posts, I've commented many times before.

I think this is the first year of the waiting list, but in my year the people who got in got this at gcse (like... 10 people got in? I go to the girls grammar school)

11A*s
11A*s
10A*s 1A
10A*s 1A
10A*s 1A
10A*s 1A - but she ended up rejecting her CRGS place and staying at CCHS
9A*s 2As
9A*s 2As
8A*s 3As
4A*s 5As 2Bs - but she ended up rejecting her CRGS place and staying at CCHS

There were quite a lot of others. Everyone got 7A*s+ basically.

My sister is predicted 7A*s 3As and an A in AS Engineering and is on the waiting list.

Saying that, though, some people who got 7A*s+ still got rejected. Must've had bad mock grades/interview.

They try and have a policy of only taking 10-15 people from our school :p:. Our school is so bitter about this as well ahhaa

Oh and I know a girl who got 6A*s 5As and went to the grammar and did really badly, restarted ASs at our school and got 5As and has 2 offers for medicine at good unis

Anyone at all?

I know somebody who just got in from the waiting list if that's any help?

If you do go here, you will definitely not regret it, it is literally the best school ever. Nobody wants to leave, and you see facebook statuses from the college for example where people are moaning about it yet at CRGS it's so united and literally just amazing! And the headteacher is incredible and you can just approach him about anything.
So I really hope you come here  xx

Gradeswise.. there are (new) people with straight A*s and there are those with just one or two so quite a range tbh. Of the people already at the school there are a number who didn't get A*s so again it's really ranged!

What subjects would you do?

Thank you for your answer  I really, really want to go there. Seriously, I love CRGS  So in your year, how many people didn't get in originally? How many got in after being on the waiting list? And what grades did they get? Cos I sent an e-mail to Mr Jenkinson asking him what kind of grades I'd need, and he said 5 or more A*s.

I want to do English Literature, History, Classics and French, but I don't think I'll get in to do History as I haven't done it at GCSE, so I think I may swap it for Geography to give myself the best chance. What subjects do you do? Are you in upper or lower sixth? And how many people study Geography? Is it quite a big number? Do you have any idea if it's tough competition to study Geography at CRGS?

Sorry for all the questions :o:

No problem about the questions :-)

Yey! Aww, well I really hope you make it! I'm not really sure how many people didn't get in I'm afraid :frown: But the problem is that more and more people are applying each year making the competition a lot tougher! Also they didn't have the waiting list system (sorry I'm really not much help am I?! I will try!) but a fair number of people drop out/reject their place so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! And to be on the waiting list is really really good! so well done!

5 or more A*s sounds about right, it's probably the average of what people in my year have - but it's quite a harsh requirement! I think the system seems to be a lot different to when I applied - I'm upper sixth now :-) - as one of my closest friends' sister was on the waiting list due to her choice of subjects being competitive? As far as I know we didn't have that!

Your subjects sound good - if you do come here I'd say get some advice about the history and what would be best. If you do do geography though, there is a fantastic department and all the people who do geography seem to love it (+a lot got full marks at AS!) I've also heard the trips are good. Unfortunately my subjects are pretty different to yours - maths, further maths, physics, chem and german  - but I can always put you in touch with somebody who does your combination! I'd say there are about 30-40 people who take geography, it's one of the popular subjects but don't let that put you off or anything!

sorry I couldn't be much more help, but if you want to know anything else about the general school life or subjects I will do my best!
Good luck, I really hope you will get it, you sound really nice :-)

Thank you so much for the answer! You're so lovely  I really, really want to get in - I'm just going to work really hard for my GCSEs to try and get 5 or more A*! I've got a place at CCHS, but I'm not particularly keen on going there - I mean, I know it's an excellent school, but I just love CRGS so much more!

Thank you once again for your answer  xx

wat did they ask at the interview?
Can I ask that if there any tips on applying for CRGS:smile:???
Heyy are there any tips for the interviews for CRGS? Also how were your experiences at CRGS, would u recommend joining for sixth form?

I'm a year 11 so can't comment THAT much on sixth form, but it is a great school. Results are exceptional, Oxbridge averaging around high-30s the last few years, and a lot of super-curricular and enrichment opportunities as they like to advertise. I've personally had a great experience up to year 11. My sister came a few years back from the girls high and she definitely liked it a lot. What A level subjects have you chosen, I can probs give more advice on subject-specific teaching. With regards to the interview just be enthusiastic I suppose.
Heyyy there! Thx for the comments  I have actually still got a while to apply but I think I’m going to choose maths biology chemistry and physics which I’ve heard are rly competitive subjects to get an offer for an external candidate. And advice on those would be great. Thanks for your time:smile:

No problem. I mean tbh I'm not really sure about the system of some subjects being more competitive than others as we don't have that system for internal applicants. Those A levels are naturally very popular though, and the departments are good. The maths department has brilliant results, around 50 A*s and 50 As, with 25 Bs and below roughly I think, it's also the most popular subject by far and away. I think Biology is the second most popular subject and the teachers are great for that in general. For chemistry the results are quite good and in general, the teachers are decent but it is a bit more variable. Physics is a very hard A level and tbh the physics department results are due to the students rather than the teachers, they're a bit hit and miss. You do get two subject teachers for each subject so you might find yourself getting one substandard one and one good teacher for physics and chemistry, but the support that's given for most subjects is generally good. I'm assuming you're year ten seeing as you've got a while to apply so if you do well in your mocks or end-of-year exams and are predicted a decent number of 8/9s I see no reason why you couldn't get in. Also if you want to see the department results and subject breakdown go to crgs.co.uk and go to the prospectus and scroll down, it'll have the results for 2019.
Wow those results do sound amazing! I will check the website later on. I’d say the thing about teachers is pretty expected tbh. I think a lot of people just believe that since maths and the sciences are popular subjects it’s harder to get an offer for those. I’m predicted all 9s so I guess I have a good chance- it all depends on whether I do well in the interview😂. I have one last question tho, do u know whether extra-curricular affects the chances of getting an offer?

If you've just heard that from some of your peers and not any teachers then I don't really think it's true, because timetabling usually isn't a problem for such a combo and we don't really have any upper limits for subject cohorts so I don't see the rationale behind them being more competitive, so I wouldn't worry.

All 9s will set you in good stead and the vast majority of applicants won't have all 9s, just maintain those grades around that level and you'll be absolutely fine. Idk how much other schools inflate predicted grades tbh though.

I'm not too sure about extra curriculars, I doubt that you'll need anything to show as they'll probably be more focused on your academics. That being said I do think in an interview they'd like to see a well rounded person who can present themselves well. If you do anything outside of academics like an interest in a particular area of science then that may work in your favour if they ask you what your outside interests are. It's also worth perhaps being able to talk about what sort of route you may want to go into and why you take those subjects, because I think my friend was asked something along those lines. It's worth noting that this is just speculation and I don't know much about external applications but that would probably be my best guess. On the school website it says that it's more a subject discussion, so will be more academic in slant probably. If you have any more questions whenever feel free to ask.
